So my boyfriend just took our baby ferret Oscar out of the cage when he was sleeping. Usually I have done this and he wakes right up. But this time he seriously looked like he was dead. He was limp and my boyfriend said he twitched a little. I was so scared I was freaking out ! He is okay now he woke up and is walking around. Is there something wrong or was he just in a deep sleep.

It's called FDS. Ferret dead sleep. Scares the h*ll out of everyone, even when you've dealt with it before. There's that kick in the gut you get, that panic. If your little one is fine now, eating, playing and pooping then chances are that's all it was ciao

Gives me a hitch every time it happens. Especially with older sick ferrets.

My little 1 1/2 did this the other day when picking her up from sleep. Head just flopped over like it was broke. Never seen her do it---scared me too---even though I know all about ferret dead sleep.

Yeah I had no idea. He has never done it (I did just recently get him). But I do have a friend that one of her ferrets gets into a deep sleep. I felt so much better after someone answered me question. This forum is seriously such a great help , if I didn't have it I probably would have called the vet.
