Sable (my one y/o adrenal ferret) threw up sometime yesterday. I thought it was no big deal until today. She can't keep ANYTHING down. I followed blockage protocol but she can't even keep pumpkin down long enough to poop it out. I gave her a bit of duck soup and she threw that up too. We are taking her to an emergency vet tonight. Any input?? She isn't lethargic but she just wants to sleep. (I don't blame her after her throwing up that much)

She needs a vet ASAP, this is a full blockage and you don't have any time to play around. Please keep us updated
ciao

We went to an emergency vet last night for fluids and stuff so she should make it through to this morning so we could see our ferret vet. I will keep everyone posted.

They did xrays and said it didn't look like she ingested any foreign bodies. I will tell you what her diagnosis is when I find out.

Okay, so he said it might be bacterial, but that if she doesn't get better today he'll start treatment for that, and that he doesn't want to treat something for a bacterial infection if she doesn't have a problem with that. He said to watch her closely and give him a call if she vomits again.

If she won't eat and cannot keep anything down, they really need to do something more than observe. If she's a kibble ferret she will be dehydrated and won't eat anyway. She needs sub q fluids or a barium at least to find out what is wrong. Ferrets do not vomit, especially projectile vomit for no reason. She's not (from your description) keeping anything down. She needs to be seen ASAP, unless you're getting liquids into her every few hours and she's keeping it down ciao

She definitely needs at least a barium. Soft obstructions won't show up on a normal xray.

I just gave her some duck soup as well. Since this morning I've seen her go poop twice, it contained no blood or debris. It wasn't a huge poop, but it wasn't thin like spaghetti either, but I think that's because she hasn't eaten since yesterday.

I am not sure if he did a barium xray but she IS pooping, it's not thin, it's just not much because she hasn't had anything to eat for awhile. He said he did not see any gas pockets and he felt her intestines and stomach for a good 5 minutes or so. She looks way better than she did last night.

Oh also they did give her fluids under the skin, and some antacid and nausea injections at the pet ER last night.

Great, sounds like she's starting to pick up. Is she on antibiotics or just the injections that she got at the vet? ciao

He said if she didn't keep down the food to call him and they would start antibiotics. She had some duck soup about 2 hours ago, and she still hasn't thrown that up.

Update : she's been eating, drinking, and pooping fine! I'm not sure what happened there. Maybe she ate an old treat or something that didn't agree with her tummy

Whatever the issue was it seems to be gone now If it WAS a soft blockage she may have also passed it.
