Hello, all!
My ferrets have a kiddie pool full of starch packing peanuts that they absolutely love. Unfortunately, we started to catch Nora (3 years old) licking the peanuts from time to time. We kept an eye on it for a while and noticed her doing it more, so we removed the pool for a while and then reintroduced it about 2 months later (we had to do this when she chewed fleece as a kit and by the time we reintroduced it, it broke the habit). However, this tactic wasn't a success and she's continuing to behave like a ferret () despite our efforts. I know that this is the reason why you use starch packing peanuts since they're safer if ingested, but I can't imagine it's completely harmless if she's licking them regularly, right? I'd rather be safe than sorry. We're going to keep the peanut pool and allow them to use it under our supervision when we're playing with them, but we're not going to leave it in their playroom 24/7 like we used to. I'd still like to find an alternative material to put in another kiddie pool to leave in there since they adore having one so much to play in. Do you have any ideas for materials we could put in there that might be just as fun to wrestle in? They already have a rice dig box in their playroom. They aren't fond of Easter eggs (in fact, when I tried that a while ago I discovered that they used the egg bin as a litter box ). I've considered ping pong balls but I'd imagine that it could get pretty expensive trying to fill a whole kiddie pool up with them. I'm at a loss for other material ideas that would give them a similar play experience as the peanuts...something they can wrestle in, burrow under easily, etc. Also, they have a fleece scrap bin that I put out periodically, but they love to sleep in it rather than play.
Thank you for your help!
