Crazy dangerous zipper thing I never considered!!!
So the other day I happend to be home from work and was playing a video game. My ferrets' cage was in my line of sight and I could see Maple, our tiny little pixie girl, pulling their duvet cover across the cage. I smiled as I thought it was cute imagining she was covering the other ferrets up with the fabric. She started shaking her head and though she wasn't making any noise it just didn't look right so I went to see what was wrong.
My ferret's lower jaw was stuck in the pull tab part of a zipper! It was for a pocket in the duvet cover for some reason and I actually didn't know it was there. To be honest I wouldn't have thought twice about them having access to a metal zipper even if I had known about it.
I had to push the zipper back into her mouth before being able to get it off her jaw, had she kept pulling she was at risk of breaking or dislodging a tooth, and at the worst breaking her jaw. As it was the metal had cut into her lower lip a bit.
Point is watch out for zippers apparently! And if you baby does get their jaw stuck in a zipper DONT PULL, figure out how they got it there in the first place and it will hopefully slide right off once it's in the right position.
Don't pull or wiggle a stuck zipper!!! It's in the perfect position and amount of pressure to pop a tooth out of its socket. Scruff the ferret and stay calm it'll be ok! Scary as poop though.
