Ok, my little fuzzy hasn't pooped since last night around 8pm it is now 10:45 am. He ate all his food and is drinking water. I think I need to do the emergency protocol but I don't have pumpkin. What can I use instead?

I've seen katt post that other types of squash (Pumpkin, Acorn, Butternut, Yellow, etc) would work. But they'd likewise have to be completely soft (ie. fully cooked and pureed or canned like pumpkin). If you don't have canned squash (I'd think this is pretty rare compared to canned pumpkin), it's probably fastest to make a store run. Make sure it's plain pumpkin/squash and not pie filling or seasoned in any way. I'd seen mention of squash baby food, but I don't know how effective that is compared to canned pumpkin. It may be more palatable, and is probably better than nothing if that's all you can find.

docs.google.com/document/d/145QYWoTOJlsHViwRrtqDk8wPrFtx9sBxtKU0-sCYtwU/editFeed 1tbsp of canned pumpkin (or equivalent squash) Wait an hour Feed 1tsp of plain vaseline (or ferretlax if vaseline is not possible) Wait an hour Repeat the above cycle again, but do not perform the protocol longer than 2 cycles (4 hours). What you need to see is large orange poops being passed, but if not, or if the ferret vomits or crashes (becomes extremely lethargic), IMMEDIATE vet assistance is needed. They specifically need to perform a Barium X-ray (other types will not be reliable), followed up by surgery if that doesn't result in stool being passed. While you're performing the protocol, make sure you have a vet ready to go ahead of time. You don't want to scramble to find a vet at the end of the protocol. Minutes will matter at that point.

We got a nice big orange poop along with a lot of hair. I think we got it! Keep pushing pumpkin and maybe Vaso once a day for a few days in case there's more that needs clearing out,l. Are they shedding right now? If so, give some raw egg (whole or yolks) 2-3 times a week. A good general rule is 1 whole egg per ferret per week, with up to 2-3 per week as long as they aren't getting too much loose stool or prolapse from it. Also RE squash, if you can't get canned pumpkin, then squash or sweet potato (less ideal due to more sugar) baby food will do. You just have to give more than a tsp bc it is essentially diluted with more water content (which is fine, just means you need more volume to get the same amount of fiber).
