There is a phone app called Tapatalk. I appreciate that you're busy, it happens But Maru's diet is unbalanced, and needs to fixed before it becomes an issue. He is young & at a critical point in development where his diet plays a big role. I did see that you got beef tongue, that's great! What other proteins have you added to his diet? It's important that Maru gets the proper nutrients, in the correct balance. This imbalance puts him at risk of weak bones, damage to eyesight, poor heart health & slow brain development - that's just to name a few. Nutritional deficiencies take a long time to become symptomatic, and by then they are severe. Maru is at a great age to try a wide variety of foods. It's imperative you follow this menu. The menu has *exactly* what Maru needs to be a healthy, happy ferret. Monday AM: Bone in Monday PM: Bone in Tuesday AM: Bone in Tuesday PM: Muscle meat Wednesday AM: Bone in Wednesday PM: Hearts Thursday AM: Bone in Thursday PM: Bone in Friday AM: Bone in Friday PM: 1/2 heart + 1/4 liver (+ 1/4 other organ eventually) Saturday AM: Bone in Saturday PM: Muscle meat Sunday AM: Bone in Sunday PM: 1/2 liver + 1/2 other organ

Welcome back. I also have a busy schedule so I know life can be hectic. I work 12+ hours a day at the hospital every day and have to come home and study all night. It is exhausting. It can definitely be hard when you are so tired at the end of the day, but I would really encourage you to check in more often - Maru's health depends on his diet being properly balanced. I use my phone browser to access the forum, I just keep a tab on HFF and log in when I have downtime during the day. You can also use the tapatalk app that Klarissa mentioned - most people really like the app. ESPECIALLY if you are considering adopting another ferret, who will likely be heavily imprinted on kibble and much more difficult to switch, as well as more likely to have pre-existing health problems, we really need you to post more consistently. I just wanted to second and third what Klarissa said. Proper variety and balance is absolutely CRITICAL. An imbalanced raw diet is far more dangerous than a kibble diet. Improper balance causes serious nutrient deficiencies that cause **Permanent** damage.... Taurine deficiency can cause serious neurological damage as well as heart disease and vision loss. Vitamin B deficiency can cause anemia, and permanent neurological damage including chronic pain and numbness of the legs, and serious dementia. Calcium deficiency can cause serious bone disease and malformations, and seizures - too much calcium can cause kidney stones, brittle bones, constipation, calcification of the arteries of the heart... And that's just to name a few. I don't want to scare you, as a PROPERLY BALANCED raw diet will provide your little one with all of the nutrients he need to grow healthy and strong. However, I do want to emphasize just how serious improper balance can be. You have a lot of the important elements in the diet, which is a fantastic start, but we really, Really need to hammer down proper balance by getting him following the menu Klarissa posted. He also absolutely needs other proteins besides just chicken. Other good proteins to try are pork, beef, turkey, (those 3 are pretty easy to find in any grocery store), quail, lamb, duck, fish, etc. The earlier you introduce these things to him the easier it will be as the older he gets the more imprinted he will become on his food, and the harder it will be to introduce new things.

@aterry1992 please post an update. If you continue to not post we will have to close the thread. I know you work long hours - so do I - but I am VERY concerned about little Maru as his diet is currently unbalanced and that could have disastrous consequences. If you are too busy to learn to properly balance his diet, then there are other option out there that we could point you towards - like pre-balanced raw commercial grinds or even freeze dried raw. If you want to follow through with the frankenprey diet we are here to help, but we NEED you to log in and post more.

Hey guys Marus diet is BALANCED. I found a great butcher that has everything I need. He gets bone in meals every day, muscle meats - all sorts of organs. hes loving it. His coat is WONDERFUL by the way since i've switched him. We got a new boy, His name is Shippo and he will not eat ANYTHING besides marshalls. I couldnt find a rescue any where around so I got maru another baby from petco, go figure i grabbed the pickiest one. I thought maybe if i just gave him nothing but the raw he would eat it, NOPE. he went about 3 days without eating at all. I feel bad about it, cracked today and gave him the kibble I just don't know what to do to get him to eat raw. He doesn't like any oils i've tried. Doesn't like ferretone or ferravite. No salmon oil. he doesn't like olive oil like maru. I just don't know what to do to get him switched now. Maru switched so easily he just eats whatever we give him.

Can you give us a rundown of what Maru's weekly menu looks like right now? For the new baby, let's get a starting weight on him so we know where we're starting. Do you have some raw soup on hand? If so, make the soup and take his kibble away for about 2-3 hours. Let him out to play and sit with a bowl of the raw soupies. Pick him up and dab a little of the raw soup on his nose so he has to lick it off. You can try getting him to lick it off of your finger but if he doesn't do that right away don't worry too much. Every time he runs by/within reach, pick him up and dab a little soup on his nose. He should start licking it off. Do this every chance you get - at least once a day, if not more when you have the time, until he will lick it willingly. Then we can move to the next step. If he's really stubborn there are other tricks but at his age it shouldn't be a huge battle. Try dabbing the raw soup tomorrow and post an update how it goes. And don't get discouraged if he isn't thrilled the first time - some get it right away and some take a little more time. Is he caged with Maru or separately right now?

Sorry I was really tired last night reading your messages. Missed Shippo's name. I also missed that he went 3 days without eating. Please do not do that, that is very dangerous. Ferrets NEED to have constant access to food, esp old sick ferrets and esp little babies who need the nutrients to grow. There are many, many tricks we can try to get Shippo eating raw, but he must have access to food that he will eat throughout the switch. If one trick doesn't work, we will try others. If we are going to move forward with this switch I NEED you to post daily, or every other day at an absolute minimum. I know you had some computer issues but now you know how to post from your phone. I know you work long hours, but so do I. It doesn't take long to pop into the forum from your phone.

so Marus weekly diet is about like monday am - bone in monday pm - liver / bone in
tuesday am- bone in tuesday pm - muscle meat / hearts
wednesday am - bone in wednesday pm - muscle meat / bone in
thursday am - bone in thursday pm - muscle meat / tongues
friday am - muscle meat friday pm - bone in
saturday am - bone in saturday pm - livers
sunday am - bone in sunday pm muscle meat.
I mix it up but he always get bone in and muscle meats. he also eats a ton so.
as for shippo, working on it. I couldn't hardly get him to even eat the marshalls kibble they gave at the store to be honest. I don't have a way to weigh him probably going to take him to the vet. He just doesn't like to eat anything i guess.
