My SO other woke up this morning to our baby Socks having abnormally hard respiration.
His respiratory rate is 80, and he is engaging his entire abdomen in breathing. He has a sporadic non-productive cough as well. Gums and nose are paler than normal. Temp was super low, but I think it inaccurate. No obvious injury, but he does NOT like his abdomen being palpated. I am almost certain that I hear crackles in his lungs with my stethoscope, but I don't know jack about the normal lung sounds of ferrets.
Simon think's I'm over-reacting. I want to vet ASAP, unfortunately none of the vets open until after 0730 in this area, and the only other animal hospital that accepts ferrets is Cornell, over three hours away.
What do you think? Video of him breathing below.

Also, he does not show ANY interest in anything. He's just laying, breathing hard. When offered mushy kibble on my finger, he turned his nose up at it. Won't eat, or drink.

I would surely vet asap, he doesn't look good and if he refuses food and water, he really needs medical care

Socks passed away on our way to our secondary veterinarian.
He started seizing and coughing up blood less than a block from the office. He was gone by the time we pulled into the parking lot.
We decided against a necropsy.
He's buried under a tree at my mother in law's home.

The vet couldn't really couldn't really give us any good answers.
We were concerned, so we just left with our baby and made it to our primary vet, but the doctor was out of the office. At the time, he was breathing heavily, but it wasn't energent yet.
Our secondary vet was five minutes away, so we decided to go there to see if they could squeeze us in. Less than a block away Sock started jerking, as if he were getting shocked. I pulled him out of his carrier and he threw himself into my arms. He started seizing and coughing up blood less than a block away from the office. Simon hadn't even pulled in all the way, and I flew into he office.
I think he was gone before I hit the door.
The vet couldn't give us any answers, and I couldn't bring myself to order a necropsy. Our apparently healthy four month old just...died.
