Hey, first post so I'm sorry if I'm doing this wrong. And sorry for the length.
Anyway, I have all Marshalls ferrets all approaching a year old, currently have them on Natures Variety Instinct Chicken cat kibble. I've read this is, though not ideal, better than most of the "better" ferret foods. Please no need to stress raw, I know. I'm just currently not in a position (limited access to kitchen due to nasty roommates and pregnant food sensitivities) to start the transition (though I started two as babies and one stuck with it and eats half raw). Everyone eats eggs as a treat and no ferrivite or any other brands, tiny licks of coconut oil a couple times a week.
Everyone willing: in a moment of pressure (to those that raw/prey feed) what is your best suggestion for kibble? I've read so many different brands I need some grounding. I even heard Wysong Epigen isn't great anymore?
On top of that I've noticed the bubs poops are changing. The Natures Variety Instinxt is "raw" whatever that means in a kibble, I wondered if this could have an effect?
Before I get into gristly detail about my business' BMs I should say everyone is doing amazing in energy and appearance/health. General health stats are good ( though vet isn't a ferret specialist). I attribute this rise in spirits to spring but can't help noticing the correlation with the food transition.
Poop description: seedy (though less so a couple weeks after change), smaller less tubular poops, thin but not blockage thin, just kinda what I would expect from my tiny female but are coming from everyone. Darker brown, not black or bloody at all.
I've noticed EVERYONE is farting when they go too! I'm now terribly aware of my ferrets' BMs when before I can't recall hearing that much passing. I have on at least one account caught one farting not during a BM too. No unusually strong odor from the poops.
Again, everyone's energy levels are increasing, through the roof really, dooking, wrestling, chasing and super affectionate, 0 trouble behavior. Everyone's eating and drinking normally (in full disclosure two may be overweight but that's for another day), coats are lovely and soft long shiny guard hairs coming in. (Ones fur is a little dry but he was treated for coccidia a few months ago so I maybe mistakenly attributed it to that?).
Anyway does the new poop and gas sound troubling to anyone? And suggestions for better kibble brands are happily accepted, money isn't an issue.
Thank you in advance! Thanks for reading all this too!
