I bought two bags of play sand and both bags are really damp. Like sandcastle damp. I was picturing dry sand that they can just play in but this stuff is so compacty. Will it dry out?

Probably not. If you look at the packaging I believe it's 98% sand and 2% polymer

Let then enjoy it as is. They can tunnel in it now. I used it in the past when I had kats, and one kat kept peeing in it, every time I left the lid open. Back then the ferts loved making tunnels. I had the sand in a big tote box.

I am probably wrong but that's how I look at it?

I let my guys play in it. They didn't eat any of it. Eventually, it dried out and it was too soft and caused them to sneeze a lot and they weren't as happy playing in it. I added more water to it and it was once again fun. I did this a number of times until it developed a personality all of it's own and then I pitched it. It worked better wet than dry. I didn't check to see if there was any additives in the stuff I bought or not. It was just children's play sand. ciao

Children's play sand has been washed and screened. Unknownst to me, however---there is a debate about its safety. Crystalline silica can damage lungs. I read that play sand in California has to include a warning. Probably not safe for ferrets if it dries out. I know pavers sand from lowe's carries a warning on bottom of bag as I saw it yesterday that says it can cause cancer and organ failure .

They seem to like it damp and love to dig tunnels. However I caught my girl pooping in it aaahh. Lol.
