I make my own kefir, and I was wondering if anyone knew if ferrets could have it?
It it is a milk kefir, but there is no lactose. Kefir is great for building good cultures in the gut, but how would it affect an animal that passes food so quickly? I was thinking it would be a good source of probiotics for the fuzzies.
Does anyone have any information they could share?

I make my own Kefir but I use goat as it's easier digested by ferrets than cow's. I don't use it often, only when after using antibiotics (at least at the moment). There is no reason to use a probiotic in a well balanced diet in a healthy ferret. I could see possibly using it when an IBD/IBS ferret is having an episode but I wouldn't use it on a regular basis. ciao

From what I have read and heard, ferrets have simple gut flora and not much. The norm for them. I would use only as above post has stated.
