A couple days ago, I noticed my ferret Molly, "smacking" her mouth
At first, I merely thought she swallowed a long hair or something and was dislodging it, so I let her be. It was NOT teeth grinding, as she did that when I first rescued her (not anymore) and it is no where near similar.
I checked on her today to realize, she hasn't been eating as well. My ferrets are on a raw diet. And I hadn't realized she wasn't joining the group at meal times.
I also caught her hiding in a blanket "gagging" I began hand feeding her soupies immediately.
Her pads are extremely warm to the touch, and pink.
And she, my normally spunkiest ferret, just lays there.
Even on outs, her favorite time, she found a rag and laid in it...
I don't know what to do. I don't have a job (I'm a stay at home artist) and because of my Insulinoma Boy My ferret funds are depleted.
Has anyone had this happen?
I'm concerned she may have stashed a meat piece, forgotten about it, and then found it and ate it :C
She has a vet appointment tomorrow!
However she vomited for the first time today, and it smelled of rot...

Has there been any stools? This sounds like a blockage and she may indeed be in trouble. Start the blockage protocol but if she cannot keep the food down you've got a serious emergency and she needs to be seen by a vet ASAP ciao

But even though there are stools, she does seem to be struggling a bit to poop.

I would be trying to run a blockage protocol. I"m not saying that is what the issue is but it does sound like this might be the case. Try to see if you can get a tbsp of pumpkin into her and see if she can keep it down. Follow it up an hour later with a tsp of white vaseline, repeat every hour but no longer than 4 hrs. If things are still moving this should move things out. Is she eating anything at all? ciao

When I hand feed her she fights me, then today she threw it all up...
I bought pumpkin, I'm worried because she seems very dehydrated (I'm giving her water by hand as well)

My husband had/has a flu. I don't recall if it is the flu that;s transmittable, or the cold?
He did not handle her, but we only live in two rooms, the bedroom, and a "living room" which is where we spend most our time.

She could very well have the flu. Ferrets are very susceptible to this virus (they use them to test the vaccines on) It's the rhinovirus you're thinking of (cold) that they can't get. Try making up broth (the real stuff not the bovril types) and try and syringe feed that. The problem with dehydration is that once it sets in the only way to rehydrate is by using sub q fluids Please keep us posted ciao

Good luck with her. And if you get the pumpkin/vaseline protocol through her, odds are you ARE dealing with the flu.
