:goodjob: on the quiz. If a ferret is eating a balanced diet then they do not need any supplements. Yes youcan feed the rabbit once a week. Why don't you write up a menu for graduation and we can go over it. If it is good then I will give you a final exam and get your status changed to raw feeder if you are ready for that. If you want to stay on a bit and introduce more whole prey I'll be happy to keep helping you. Hope Binxie is doing well and believe me, no apoligies needed for a busy schedule!

Thank you so much for all of your help if the menu looks good to you then i believe i am good to go.

I don't see any salmon in there, you will want to include that for your final menu. You ideally should be feeding as many different protiens in a week as they will eat. If you alternate muscle meats from week to week please indicate that in the menu ex, Tues pm pork muscle alternating weekly with salmon. That shows a more complete picture of their diet.

We will only be giving salmon twice a month and will be alternating it with the pork and we will alternate it biweekly.

Pork riblets are fine, some of the denser parts of them, they may not eat. I just need you to do up a complete menu reflecting everything they eat, if you are alternating something with something else just say pork alternating with salmon etc. Once this is done I will post a final exam for you.

That menu looks great, I will submit it for your graduation after you answer the final exam!! Final exam questions 1.) What are some good emergency taurine sources if you run out of heart?
2.)Your ferret is constipated and his stools are very hard and dry. What is this a sign of and how can you adjust to fix it?
3.)Organs should consist of approximately how much liver, and how much "other" organ?
4.) Are gizzards a muscle meat, or an organ?
5.)What is a healthy diet item that can be used for hairballs, and his often should you give it?
6.) Are leaner meats better for your ferret or fattier meats?
Good luck!! you have done a :goodjob:

I did have a question can you give to much red meat I was going to try giving them lamb and i know thats a red meat and they already get rabbit twice a week so is that too much? 1.) beef liver? or fish? 2.) give more muscle meat in the diet and less bone in. 3.) .75 liver .75 other organ. .5 once a week + .25 once a week = .75. 4.) muscle meat 5.) eggs at most twice a week. 6.) fattier meats are better for them

1.) What are some good emergency taurine sources if you run out of heart? 1.) beef liver? or fish? Are those questions or answers? (giggle) Liver is NEVER a substitute for heart. Fish is often high in taurine but not reccomended as a substitute. Please read this... 1.) How many proteins at a minimum should be included in a ferrets diet? yes three 2.) Name 3 organs. Liver and kidney is correct but hearts are actually a muscle meat but for dietary purposes we place it in it's own category. Spleen, pancreas, brain, testiclesand green tripe are examples of other organs 3.) If you ran out of heart what can you use in an emergency as a substitute? we feed heart for it's taurine content, if you run out of heart tongue and lung are high in taurine also. There is also a powdered form available

Yes this is from this thread, we have gone over this. 2.)Your ferret is constipated and his stools are very hard and dry. What is this a sign of and how can you adjust to fix it? 2.) give more muscle meat in the diet and less bone in. Yes3.)Organs should consist of approximately how much liver, and how much "other" organ? 3.) .75 liver .75 other organ. .5 once a week + .25 once a week = .75. I'm not sure what the .75 is, is that how many ounces you actually use? The correct answer is 1/2 and 1/2 = 1 so if you feed 3 oz a meal 1.5 ounces of liver and 1.5 ounces of other organ and on the heart/organ combo day it would be 1.5 ounces of heart and 0.75 ounces of liver and 0.75 ounces of other4.) Are gizzards a muscle meat, or an organ? 4.) muscle meatyes5.)What is a healthy diet item that can be used for hairballs, and his often should you give it? 5.) eggs at most twice a week. yes6.) Are leaner meats better for your ferret or fattier meats? 6.) fattier meats are better for them yesSo before I submit the menu and final exam to Heather I would like you to resubmit answers to what you can use instead of heart for taurine and tell me how many ounces are your organ and heart meals and how many ounces of liver and other organ are in them please.
To answer your question about too much red meat, it would be fine to add lamb in also, because they will not be able to digest the bones that are in lambs though I would alternate the lamb meat with the gizzards. This keeps a good variety of protiens rotating through without cutting back on the salmon and pork which are already being alternated. You could also replace one of the rabbit bone in meals with the lamb muscle meat and still have plenty of bone in the diet (of course that will depend on whether or not they end up with loose stools). 7 is the minium number of bone in meals and 9 is the max so 8 would be fine. Let me know what you decide.

I will respond to the rest of the post once im home and on my computer so i can reply to everything i just wanted to reply to the lamb part. Im going to alternate it with the pork every other week since it is a bit pricey. I will also upload a complete menu including it as well.

1.) What are some good emergency taurine sources if you run out of heart? either lung or powdered resources
3.)Organs should consist of approximately how much liver, and how much "other" organ? okay so i give roughly 3 oz meals. so 1.5 oz. of liver and 1.5 oz of kidney during organ meals. i give them 1.5 oz of heart and .75 oz of kidney and .75 oz of liver on heart and organ days.
(so 2.5 oz meals would equal 1.25 heart, .6 liver, .6 kidney.) (I am going to be dropping down to giving 2.5 oz meals or less instead of 3 oz meals.)
