Good morning all! Today I had my first vet exam so I could get my babes vaccinated as the previous owners did not do that. I work around lots of dogs so the distemper is essential. She was recommended from a friend as I am in California and am very careful with who I see. We got the shots done, tested negative for any parasites in stool so that's a plus I go back in 3 weeks for the second distemper vaccine, then a week later for rabies. (They had one distemper at 8 weeks and that's it.) I stayed for almost an hour with no adverse reactions to the vaccine. Unfortunately she is completely against raw diets, said the same stupid myths "They will crave fresh meat and want to hunt which is the whole point of them being illegal" BS. She also only recommends products made for ferrets like all the marshalls stuff. She did sell me some flea and tick preventative, but it was a good discount so I have it for emergencies now. There is almost 0% chance they would catch flea's but I guess it's better to have just in case. /shrugs ANYWAYS the whole point of this is to ask exactly what type of toothpaste, shampoo and ear cleaning solutions you guys use that ISN'T Marshalls.... Is this the correct toothpaste? www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=24578

I feel like vets who support Marshall products need to brush up on their ferret info. I had the same issue but I like my new vet.

She was very proper and seems educated but it was her way or the highway. I have a lead on a goof vet hospital with staff that are raw supporters I am waiting for a phone call back seeing if they see ferrets. They have been good to my friend who raw feeds her dogs so I think I will go there after vaccines are done for a checkup.

Yes, that's the toothpaste that I use. Is it the best for them, I've no idea. I just know it works for Atreyu with minimum amount of stress. As far as the vaccines...can I make a wee bit of a suggestion. If at all possible wait a month between them. It allows their immunity to settle a bit before giving it another smack with a different disease. It allows it time to re-establish and stabilize before giving it another hit. ciao

She said 3 weeks for the second distemper since they never received the complete set. As for the rabies I don't think it would be bad to wait until the month after that right? I mean they have no access to other animals and we don't take them outside so it should be fine.

I space whatever vaccines I have to have as far apart as possible. My distemper and rabies of my imports are actually months apart while still staying within the parameters of the import passport ciao

They will hit 1 year old as of May, They don't have a way of catching rabies as long as they aren't exposed to other animals right?

we usually use CET enzymatic toothpaste. there is another non-marshall brand that I can't remember atm, but enzymatic is important as the enzymes help break down the plaque. we get it on amazon, but vets have it too and the price difference isn't that much.
