Has anyone used buserelin in jills to bring them out of season but not keep them out all year?
Mischief has come into season already (along with two of her daughters ... naughty girls!), and this year I wanted to breed her with her grandson ... but I think both of her grandsons are too young as yet so really want to give them some time.
I am considering using buserelin ... but surely this only has the same effect as using a vas hob? I know from previous years that Mischief comes back into season after an early litter (April) or indeed after a false pregnancy as she was in season three times last year!
I am slightly tempted to leave her the 14-17 days, try her with one grandson and see if he is interested. I would probably need to watch closely to ensure he definitely was mature enough .... and if he wasn't Mischief could go straight to the vas hob and we just see how the year goes. It wouldn't be tragic if Mischief wasn't bred this year, but I am keen to go ahead and do this breeding to check the line ASAP before I go too much further.

I have used delvo, but usually find in 50% of jills that they don't come back into season for the rest of the year after being jabbed so there is always the risk ... mind you that is usually in jills jabbed late in the season.
This evening, my little hobs are suddenly acting more hobby (could be because I smelt strongly of the very stinky Basil) ... and they are starting to get a little pong but not too much. So maybe I will try Mischief with Eli and see what happens and then resort to Barley if Eli is not mature enough.

Hi Vicki I find it depends on the jill if she comes in season early ( jan/feb) she often needs two shots but for jills who have there first season later may onwards they only come in the once ( my old girls only ever have one season once they are over 6/7 years old ) and past ten often there in for one day and take themselves out lol I personally have not seen it used on jills take care bye for now Bev

I needn't have worried. Let Eli have a sniff round his grandma and suddenly he no longer a kit and he knows what it is all about! Will leave them together for a little while and see if he's brought her out of season.

It's rather weird to see the babies suddenly grow up and become adults, at least sexually. I remember when my wee girlies came in and I was so upset to have to put them with a v-hob thinking they were just babies (8 months old). I can remember telling Bacchus to be nice and gentle as they were just babies. I shouldn't have worried....well maybe for poor Bacchus lol. ciao

It is weird. My little baby boy in a matter of minutes turned into a dooking little monster!
Might need to give him a bath and a little talking to before he goes back to his brother who does not yet know about the birds and the bees.
Hopefully these two boys will still live together after Eli's rendez-vous, I already have my v-hob on his own and it does make me sad!

I have to admit, that Bacchus eyes were crossed with Lady Lola and her daughters came in(they chose to be ready within days of each other). It seemed he was rather pleased to have his bed to himself. My only complaint....the B&E twins have to be separated in their cage this year * This is the first time ever they've been apart but when Bacchus came back after his last round, all h*ll broke loose. They play out in the room fine, they play upstairs with their little sister, Mimsy....but they do not share a cage together. I figure once the season is over they will move back together 24/7 again. ciao

I will use it on Drdra on wednesday. Over here we are usualy using hCG, but Marie (Marie's ferrets) told me she uses buserelin (it is supposed to give them lesser hormonal mess up), so I will try it. With hCG the downside is that sometimes you have to repeat it (and it does not work at all if you apply before day 10 of heat + they might develop antibodies toward it if used more times). The downside of buserelin is, that females can go to false pregnancy and even false lactation..
I plan to vasectomise Vega, but he has quite funny winter time - his testicles shrunk somewhere in january/mid february, can not really say why, since he is housed outside. Maybe I confused him with better food (he was adopted before christmas). Now he is back in full winter mode (acctually gaining weight and in full winter coat) with proper sized testicles, but atm is to late to use him as a V-hob in this heat, since she is in full heat for 12 days.

It took a few more days for my BF to remember to took receptal at home from work, so we did it today. Drdra is a real hybrid and acts as she is supposed according to this. It is ok with me to handle it, everyone else - maybee for 10 seconds, after that she goes into killing mode. So we had serious preparations with hand gloves and I used malt pasta to distract her (yes, I did), I was even considering to get her sedative if we couldn't do it. Well ... all for nothing, she didn't even bother. Not even turned around or hissed ...

I love it when they surprise you with good behaviour!
Did you inject into the muscle? And how much did you use?

No, we aplied it subq (it metablizes the same, just more slowly - in most ferret books it is recomended i/m route, but if you look for a rabbit it is s/c). We used 0,25 ml/per ferret. I will update how it will go.

"Pregnancy" went smoothly, but she has "given birth" few days ago She picked Iorek to be her baby and now harasses him al the time. She is constantly following him and as soon as he goes out of their hutch, she tries to drag him back in. She is pretty much annoying, hissing on everything and everyone, defenses her "den" (no way to look in to the hutc if she is around), chases cats, ... She just became a bitchy little "mom". But I have to admit she is not as bad as I tought she will be due to her usual character.
