This is my new boy Anubis.
I got his from someone off of Craigslist, he's about 2 years old. His cage mate had died 2 months ago, so I figured I could take him in and let him enjoy the company of my two boys I already had. When I went to go pick him up, I saw him out on the porch with the guy as he was getting ready to break down the FN for us to take. He looked big(compared to my 3 month olds), looked a little scraggly.
I didn't pick him up immediately cause he seems to be enjoying walking and exploring and I was pretty surprised how well he stayed and didn't run off. So they guy decided to wash him with a hose and what looked to be men's body wash ( ). Then put him in a towel sack to dry off. After that I got to hold him, he's so boney, I am so afraid I am going to hurt him every time I pick him up 'cause of his bones. His nails look like they haven't been clipped in awhile(I've been clipping a few over the past few day to not stress him out & he's not liking olive oil.)
He's really calm, he laid in my lap in that blue towel thing that came with him the entire 40-minute drive home. I know it's only been 2 and a half days, but he sleeps a lot, doesn't eat very much, doesn't play but likes to chew on rubbery things(thinking of getting him something more appropriate rubber-like things to chew on like N-bones or something), when I let him out he mostly walks around and looks at stuff and goes in his towel sack and sleeps. He occasionally goes through the tube I have, which is cute cause he goes through on his back. My guys have tried to play with him, they hop on his back and he just keeps on walking and they eventually slide off. He doesn't have any stress poops. He's a tiny bit skittish when I touch him sometimes but he's not deaf or blind, that I can tell.
He came with some kind of cat food (looks like friskies or meow mix or something), which I have gotten him to eat what mine have been eating EVO with some olive oil. I made some soupies just for my younger ones to try out, I don't know if I should try it with him 'cause I don't want the scruff and stuff to stress him out.
Is he depressed? Not only from losing his cage mate and being without her for 2 months but also from the new surroundings? I'm going to give him a few more days to adjust and if doesn't any better I'm going to take him to the vet. I want to help the poor guy out as much as I can and get him nice and fat.
