Has it stopped bleeding? and have you clipped the nail so it doesn't catch on the bedding? ciao

It has stopped bleeding. No I didn't cut the nail. I was afraid to make it worse. When I do cut it, how short? Heather

Is it just the nail or is there any skin ripped?

Well it's hard to tell for sure. But I think it's just the nail.

I would clip the nail as short as possible if you can without destabilizing the nail bed. We don't want you to open that wound up again but we don't want him catching the nail on bedding and ripping it further ciao

You don't want it to start bleeding again. If you can clip it to the quick without starting up the bleeding then do so. If you're having a problem getting a smooth edge that will not catch please vet ciao

This happened to my guy a couple months ago and it was terrifying so I know what you're going through! Best advice if you haven't done so already is completely clean his cage and bedding. This will help reduce the risk of infection. The vet told me to keep an eye on it and it should heal up fine but if it looked infected to come back in for medication.
