I HATE TEXAS. MOSQUITOES AND FLEAS MOST OF THE YEAR
Okay so...heartworm preventative. As much as I hate having to use it, it's a death sentence for ferrets here in Texas without it

I have always used straight ivermectin (diluted in propylene glycol) because it seems like the safest option to me. The only problem is getting them to take it
Reks and Pan do OKAY (I always give olive oil afterwards to calm them down and get rid of the bad taste in their mouth :
, Bantha is a dream (he is SO GOOD WITH EVERYTHING...he'll just yawn and stay relaxed when scruffed, and doesn't make a fuss during or after
)...but Sari. She turns into demon ferret when you try to do ANYTHING to her. She is IMPOSSIBLE to scruff, and if you get lucky and get a grip, she literally flips right out of your hands
I try and make everything much easier on them by finding alternatives to scruffing to stress her out less, but I've tried. I even tried putting the suspension IN olive oil. First off, it doesn't mix since olive oil is thicker
and Sari just freaks out when she does lick up a little and refuses to even lick anymore olive oil for a while until she forgets about it (so even when she's given it, she doesn't get a full dose which worries me
).
I know from working for a vet for 3 years that they have flavored suspensions for most medication. I'm curious whether or not they can do that with ivermectin?
I want to find something that will mask the bitterness of the ivermectin, if it's possible to even mix it with something like that.
Any other ideas? I hate stressing her out, but it's necessary here in Texas
