Well well well.....we came home from work, prepared plates and the boys were put playing and running around. Picked up Gomez and placed his plate and him in the condo.....he started eating, see the pics and ate most of it. I did cut his pieces tonight a lite smaller to help. Good luck on surgery and we'll be fine. Jami, yes is having right knee scope with meniscus tear repair on Monday

I swear Gomez reads these posts before you do, lol. Good for him! Now don't give in and go back to hand feeding him. He'll probably try to play you a few times. Let him have a few meals with the smaller chunks so he gains some confidence in eating on his own, then start increasing the chunk size and decreasing the soup again.

Hi @pouncesmom and Gina...I am at Petsmart and asked if they had pinkies and they did. 12.99 for 6 and says they are from Naples Fla. Have either of you used these and so now what....serve frozen or thawed to the boys? I can take a pic of the box in a bit and post Thanks

I have not fed pinkies, but many ferrets LOVE them. Since the boys have never had them, they likely won't know that they're food at first. You'll have to introduce them like you do any new protein, possibly even have to chop them up at first. I would definitely thaw at first so they'll have more smell, but once the boys know what they are, you can serve frozen.
Pinkies do not replace bone-in meals in the menu. They are generally fed as treats.

Yes, these are only for treats....just want to see how they do. Our vet thinks mice are the true balanced diet, she supports our raw but says well they wouldn't catch a cow or pig in the wild lol.

While it is true that they wouldn't take down a cow or a pig, they will eat large animals that something else has killed. Somewhere on the forum there is a video of a wild ferret dragging/eating a deer carcass.
Mice are natural prey for ferrets, but so are fish, frogs, small birds, rabbits, and lizards, among others. Eating a one-protein diet would be like us eating only broccoli for our entire lives. Yes, broccoli is good for us, but we'd be missing out on so many other things that our bodies need.
Let me know how the pinkies go over!

Tomorrow will be hectic as it Jami's knee surgery but wanted to give an update. We really think what Jax is doing is eating too fast hence worm unchewed and undigested food.....liver, chicken, beef.....I tell him to slow down, it is not alot, like 1-2 pieces. Poop still looks ok. Gomez us fo I nh alright eating alone, evenings he seems to eat more, eating about 3/4 of his meals and we start out there then walk away but in the same room. This morning he ate like 3 bites then walked away, never ate it but tonight did good. Good luck with your surgery, we will keep you in our thoughts.
