I really want to start doing more whole prey in my boys' diet, and I would love to start adding some fish. It's fishing season, and I love to fish, so it would be great to catch some fresh fish to give to them My questions are: 1) What types of fish are okay to be fed? I would be fishing fresh water, and there are a variety of different fish around. (Trout, bass, minnos, etc) 2) Should I cut the fish up? Take anything out? Or just give it to them to eat without doing anything to it? I saw that goingpostal has a thread about fish, I didn't want to hijack it with all my own questions Any other tips or info would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Neka is the only one who will eat fish (though he eats anything!) I have fed whole (no head) sliverfish, and chunks of salmon. Usually he will eat the whole fish, though I do find some spines in the cage picked clean. lol
Oh and I would love to do live fishing, but haven't found any that i feel comfortable giving.

I am definitely going to try some live feeding of fish. I'm thinking of catching small minnows for this, to see if they like it. But if it's larger fish, I'll feed it fresh, non-live. Thanks for your input

I think you could likely feed any of the fresh water fish without too many worries. Just try not to make it more than weekly. Athena absolutely adores a meal of salmon once in a while. And Lucrezia is mad about smelts ;D

Yeah, I would definitely keep it down to a weekly meal I'm hoping they take to it, it would be a lot of fun and very rewarding, for me personally, to know I caught dinner for them ;D

I feed small fish like smelt whole, but I remove the spine from fish around trout/mackerel sized...I caught Akiko drooling, gagging, and coughing a lot one day, and when I pried her mouth open I found a mackerel vertebrae stuck around one of her molars like a ring and it took quite a bit of pressure to pry it out, scared the heck out of both of us.
