well here i go.....
i adopted a 1yr old ferret 2 wks ago & bought a 4 month old ferret 1 wk. ago. called there new vet the day i brought the 1st girl home. (both spayed). was told they would be healthiest on prey (live or frozen thawed), & raw meat. so i rushed out and bought 5 pairs of breeding gerbils (one with babbies), raw chicken, 6 female mice & 2 male mice(have bred before cause i own snakes), a bag of ferret kibble, some frozen pinkie mice & bag of frozen med rats. so i started tossing 1cp kibble, 6 pieces of chicken chunks, water & ferretone into the blender to make soup. they wanted nothing to do with it until i used s syringe & fed them that way. since then, i have been able to remove ferretone. down to making enough food for 2 day supply. here is what there soup consists of now... 1/3cp kibble, small handful pinkie mice, 1 med rat, sm handful chicken chunks & warm water. the 1yr. old (spaz), so far will eat the soup and only live pinkie, hopper gerbils. ghost, my other one just learned how to eat a pinkie gerbil yesterday. next batch of food i will not be putting kibble in. how do i get them from eating the soup to eating whole prey?? neither will eat pinkie mice or rats at this time even with ferretone on them, yet they have learned to love the soup. as an added note, at there vet apt yesterday, i found out that ghost is very under weight. ( the petco where i work, had 8 other ferrets in an enclosure with her. we think that there was just not quite enough food for them. should i just feed her normally, or is there something i can give her to help her put on weight??
