I have a ferret that was found and given to me when the owners couldn't be located. I'm not sure of his age but recently I noticed one of his upper canine teeth was not the usual pearly white. Near the gum is yellowish then there is like a brown band and then after that is the normal white color. Is this something that can be fixed?

From what I could see...I wouldn't worry about it. Damage to the canines are not uncommon. Chipped teeth and such from cage biting and tuggs of war happend frequently. Though the pic isn't clear judging from the light refraction I would say the ferret is probably about 2 or so. Is this going to be your little one? ciao

I have one who has one nasty brownish tooth, not sure what the deal is either but doesn't bother him and hasn't gotten worse.

Here is a clearer picture of his tooth. As far as I know he doesn't bite anything (He has a cage but his constant trying to bite it made me worry about his teeth so I gave up on it awhile back.) The only other thing is he beats up the cat sometimes. He is an only ferret child. But gauging from the two responses so far this is not something to be majorly concerned over?

I wouldn't worry about it. Keep an eye on it but I wouldn't worry about it. It appears to have been damaged at some time, looks rather like my Pooka's (both of hers were that way, I don't know what happened as she came to me that way) but other than them going totally brown they never bothered her and nothing more happened. According to my vet at some point she did damage the root somehow but it never affected her. She died this year at the ripe old age of 10 or so and nothing was ever done about either canine ciao

i would not worry. sometimes they have a funky colored tooth. my ferret is only nine months old and he has ONE molar that gets alot of tartar build up. he does most of his chewing on the other side of his mouth so he doesn't "clean" this particular tooth well enough. I have to brush his teeth once a week because of that. but the canines in my ferrets have always gotten yellowed, chipped, etc. one day my ferret Al sneezed so violently that his head hit the wall and he chipped his fang.
