1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
-Googling around I came across raw feeding when I got my first two girls. However, then I got Calvin and he had zero interest in raw so I stopped learning.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
-I am currently interested in a full switch to a frakenprey diet. However, I would have zero qualms with involving some whole live/frozen prey but based on my current living situation I know I could not provide them with that consistently. Basically, I desire to feed full raw with as much knowledge on any good nutrition I can gather.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
-After losing Link I only want what is best for my current and future ferrets. The only thing that was stopping me from going raw was my own laziness not Calvin’s reluctance to eat it. Plus, I find it fun to prep raw meals.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
-Yes x 100, I am very dedicated to this switch and learning process.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
-3 Ferrets
Whiskey - Oldest at 2 years and 3 months – Female – Healthy – 887g – 2 years 1 month
Calvin - a little under 2 – Male – Healthy – He weighs 1362g – 1 year 4 months
Riker - 10 weeks – Male - Healthy!! – 694g – 1 week
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
-All three of my ferrets consume Origen Cat and Kitten and EVO Turkey & Chicken Cat & Kitten. Whiskey my female will take hand/spoon fed soupie and accepts extra virgin oil as a treat. Riker my new kit will eat soupie on his own happily and enjoys extra virgin oil as a treat as well. (I mostly feed Riker soup however since I leave kibble out at night for Calvin I assume he eats that as well.) Calvin my big boy spits soupie back out on me, doesn’t like oil, and it was even tough getting him to swap to a higher quality kibble!
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
-Before I did not try very hard to get Calvin to swap. I gave up without putting in the effort is what happened, laziness and lack of commitment on my part.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
-I am a full time student and I do work as well, but I am very dedicated to this diet swap.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
-I have my own computer in my room, a smart phone, and a tablet all which I access frequently. So every day at least twice a day I will be checking the forums.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
Whiskey
Calvin
Riker (He was a wriggler)
11. Have you met the requirements for this program? Are you at least 18 years of age? Do you have your scale, a place to access meats, hearts, livers, etc?
I am 24. I have a scale, two local groceries that carry livers/hearts and an Asian market down the street that carries more complex proteins. I also ordered human grade bone meal and sometimes we also get eggs from a local farmer. I have a meat knife and a food blender/processor thingy.
