Hi,
Charlie the oldest of my 4 furkids has always been a small ferret, last year he got a viral infection and lost lots of weight. After a course of antibiotics he put it back on again but now he has lost a lot again.
I know that he has lost his winter fat/fur but i still think he could do to put on some weight.
He seems healthy in him self and has lots of energy. he eats and drinks well but still looks skinny.
I'm wondering if anyone could help me with a weight gain diet plan to try to see if he puts on weight.
At the moment he eats mostly kibble and a mixture of blended meat.
Are there any high fat meats/ organs etc that i can try to help him put on weight??
thankyou

Look for cheap cuts of meat...the ones that many won't take. The ones with lots of skin and fat on them. Lamb, chicken legs, some pork cuts ( I just picked up a pkg of ribblets, they're quite fatty), duck, goose both are really fatty meats. I generally avoid anything quick tricks, some people use cream and lard but I would sooner use diet itself. This is the wrong time of year to be trying to put fat on them but, if you start the diet now you will see little pudge beasts come fall I know where you're at though because my Yuri was very sick and he too looks way to scrawny, he's got a nice coat now but I'm not fond of it when their hip bones stick out Makes me fell like a bad ferrant ciao

Any more tips will greatly be appreciated!

You can also give him soupies daily, that would probably help.

I agree with the fat in the diet. But some ferrets will always be a "greyhound" build, and there's not much you can do about it. I've got one of those, too

he looks allot like my little girl Hershy I used to always worry about her being to skinny to as she gets older she eats less and seems to get even more thinner but its just her build and the way she is I would not be so concerned as long as he is eating and has normal amount of energy
but I am sure he wouldnt mind if you treated him to extra treat of yummy soupies a couple tims a week
