Not a problem and it does sound like the syrup helped Time it the same as carafate then since he won't eat right after. Give it about 30 minutes before a meal and see how he does. Keep up with it for about 3 days and then try without again.

Quick update. Both boys are eating well and having solid poo again! Stopped the syrup to see how Alvin does for the next day or two. Hubby and I steam cleaned the carpet in the ferret room so they have a completely healthy clean room. I also cleared out the freezer last night so I can place an order with Hare today. Thanks!

Oh excellent :boing: You know you are doing SO well with these boys, especially with Alvin It sounds like you are getting a handle on his IBD also! Now you have a back up plan of lamb/slippery elm bark syrup for if he has a flare up, and avoiding poultry for about a year to hopefully decrease any sensitivity to it he should *touch wood* be okay :goodjob:

Thanks Sherry! I wanted to run by a proposed order from Hare Today with you before I complete the order. Should I stick with the grounds that include the organs/bones with each meal? Until I know what the boys are willing to eat and absolutely refuse, I have in my cart:
Ground Goat/Bones/Tripe/Organs Ground Llama/Bones/Organs/Tripe Ground Mutton/Bones/Organs Ground Rabbit/Bones/Organs Ground/Beef/Organs/TripBone
The venison I've picked up at the store does not sit well with either Alvin or Farley. Should I try to stay with lamb instead of the mutton?
Thanks!

Yes definitely stay with those meats that are balanced. As for the venison, if it doesn't settle well it may just be a bit too strong. Venison is one of those love or hate meats it seems. And yes for now I'd stick with lamb. Mutton may also be a bit too rich at the moment. Something that *might* do Alvin well if they still have it is ground mice.

We got the Hare today shipment yesterday. Added a scoop of the rabbit to the boys' dinner and they were chowing down. It will be interesting to see if they finish their plate overnight. Farley likes to snack on his meals and usually stops and starts with his second dinner.

So far the boys love the rabbit. Alvin got loose stools again so it was back to lamb for a few days. He seems to get the loosies every few days. I thought it may have been the larger containers of the Rad Cat so we switched to using only the small containers (which they go through one a day). Reintroduced the rabbit yesterday and so far so good. They boys seem to enjoy the flavor. I'll get them started on the mouse next.

It is sounding like he may need a bit of a faster switch to keep him stable. Try adding the new protein into the old over 3-4 days and see how he does. So day one for new protein would be 1/4 new, 3/4 old, day two first meal half and half, next meal 3/4 to 1/4, day 3 full new protein for both meals, then start over again with the next protein. It means you need to have it more organized but if you try that for a couple of weeks and see no bowel issues then you know it works. With IBD it is trial and error unfortunately. But at least he is at a point where he is not consistently having issues.

Thanks Sherry! I will do that. I took out the beef mix last night instead of the mouse mix, but it should be defrosted enough by this evening to portion out and mix in with the lamb. Alvin is looking really good other than his occasional upset tummy. His eyes are bright and he has a bit more energy. I still have to hold him to get him to finish a meal, and I'm hoping that with a little bit of weaning him of that he will start to eat more on his own. I love having that time with Alvin, but I really need him to get to a point where he will eat on his own when he gets hungry or we wake him for a meal at medicine time. Farley is eating the rabbit on his own without much coaxing now (he's always been a flighty eater - more interested in playing than having a meal but I know he will eat on his own when he gets hungry).

And even with mince, I leave it in all day til the next feeding time. If it dries out a bit I just mix it up with a bit of warm water and they chow down again lol

Sorry for the absence Sherry. i was having some issues with pregnancy and work and trying to keep Alvin fed and clean. They took to the Hare today well but the IBD still pops up every 3rd day or so. I mix proteins every couple of days and that seems to help but I do need to resort to carafate if his stool becomes too loisr. He and Farley are with a ferret sitter now while we get adjusted to having a neeborn, but she is keeping with the raw diet and IBD protocol.

Glad to see you back in again lol. With switching are you mixing in the proteins over a few meals or just abruptly switching?
