A couple days ago one if my two ferrets Sif had unexpectedly passed during the night. Ever since I got her a few months ago she always had this cough, but otherwise she was perfectly fine. She also seemed a little congested and sometimes lack if energy. It never got worse, but I had planned on taking her to the vet soon. I was so devastated knowing I should of taken her sooner. I'm thinking it might have been a respirarory infection. She is a Marshall ferret and was only about six months old. RIP my beloved Sif

I'm so sorry, I will light a travelling candle for your little one. Did you get a necropsy done? A ferret so young shouldn't have just died. I would have been very concerned and a necropsy is one of the only ways to get answers. There may have been nothing you could have done and it certainly saves not knowing and beating yourself up because of it. Gentle journey little one ciao

Sounds like she could have had a heart problem. Persistent cough, congestion with a lack of energy and a sudden death points towards a heart condition imo. I would definitely have a necropsy done.

like Yurei indicated cardiomyopathy happens sometimes with these little guys, with cardiomyopathy they can live a long lethargic life or can just be gone like that. with a bad ticker that can go out at any time.
just you know you gave her a wonderful home for as long as her heart lasted. sometimes even on medication the heart can give out.
I know how you feel, no young ferret should have such a short life. they are always taken from us too soon.
