Yes, that's after she's eaten the 1.3 oz soup that came with it. It's the 0.5 oz of slivers that are left over. So do you think it's better to give the soup with just the 5 slivers, and wait for her to finish that, and then give more slivers? I just gave it all at once. I guess psychologically that could be quite different. So do you want me to go back to soup + 5 slivers tonight (if she hasn't eaten today)? Probably not, but she'll be able to hate me very healthily

Try just the 5 slivers mixed in the soup and see what she does. Maybe all those slivers at once are a little overwhemling to her? OR she knows what we're trying to do so she won't eat all those slivers? If there is only a few slivers mixed into the soup, she might accidently lick one sliver up and it won't be such a shock to her at first.
If (when) that works and the plate is clean, give her 5 more slivers drizzled with some warm water and salmon oil (if she likes that). If she doesn't eat the second round of slivers, you can always hand feed her.
The idea is to give her the soup because; 1. You know she will eat that and we don't want her to starve 2. It's balanced and that is most important 3. It's comforting and not stressful
But she can't eat soup forever so we need to trick her (I mean teach her (giggle)) into eating the slivers each meal.
(Does that make sense? I feel like, again, me typing out my explaination is confusing!) (shy)

OK, so you think she'll eat 5 extra slivers, but not 25 of them? That makes sense, especially since it's what she did yesterday. If she eats everything, do I offer her just slivers after that, though? Because she didn't eat those... well, she ate a few drizzled in salmon oil and hand-fed. Should I just try going through all of them like that? Another option maybe: just 1/2 cube soup with 5 slivers, then the same thing for a 2nd helping?... 3rd helping? I do feel like I'm making some progress, thank you

Yep if she eats the soup plus the 5 slivers, only give her additional slivers (no soup UNTIL the next meal). This way, if she's hungry, she has slivers as her only option. I'm on my phone so I'm sorry it's short. I'll keep checking if you have more questions though! Just remember, 1 cube of soup and as many slivers she will eat (in 5 sliver increments). If she needs help "reminding" her she likes slivers, drizzle warm water or salmon oil and/or hand feed her. But only 1 oz of soup per meal

Oh, the 1/2 cube soup... I'd just do the 1 cube Plus 5 slivers. Then if she cleans that, then 5 more slivers only. I like this idea because when she cleans the plate and she sees you getting more, she will think you are bringing her soup; but you're actually bringing her 5 slivers drizzled with warm water or salmon oil. And I agree-you are making progress for sure!!!!!! Good job!!!!!!

This evening's results:
1. soup with 7 slivers, all eaten (maybe 2 slivers left behind, hard to tell) 2. 7 slivers in warm water: nothing. She eventually ate one sliver off a baby spoon with lots of salmon oil
When I put her to bed she'll have 7 fresh slivers in warm water with a few drops of oil. I'll try hand feeding her if she doesn't go for it.

Happy Friday! So, how did it go? Also, how much water are giving with the slivers? A drizzle or are the slivers swimming in the water? I hope she ate a couple for you!

One sliver mysteriously disappeared overnight. This morning: 1st helping: 1.3 oz soup + 7 slivers: all eaten (except maybe one small sliver) 2nd helping: 7 slivers: none eaten. I left them in her cage. I put just enough warm water to cover the slivers. She drinks that. She likes warm shallow water. I tried hand feeding with salmon oil with and without spoon this morning: I thought I'd got her to eat one and then it dropped onto the floor. Not quite sure whether that was on purpose or not... On the plus side it looks like she's stopped expecting a 2nd helping of soup, and she seems pretty perky. And not to jinx us but no grinding of any kind since we last mentioned it. I think she took a few weeks to slowly heal after the cleaning So I'm OK continuing like this for a while. What do you think? Any other tips? And Happy Friday!

At first I was slightly bummed she didn't eat all the slivers overnight...but I think that could mean that she's full! Remember, females eat 1-3oz per day! So with the soup plus 7 slivers twice a day (optomistic!), that's closer to the 3oz mark! AND it's spring time! I think you 2 are doing great!!!!!!! If you have some time, check in over the weekend but yes - please continue feeding this way over the weekend. She can have as many slivers as she wants, but only 1 cube of soup per meal. I thought I'd got her to eat one and then it dropped onto the floor. Not quite sure whether that was on purpose or not...Hehe! I think you already know the answer to that one... (giggle) That's great she's happy and perky! And I think she did need some extra time to heal. She had so many meds the past few months. I'm glad she's showing she's feeling better too!!! It seems like you 2 are doing well as is, so the only tip I can think of is if you want to play with the sliver shapes and sizes? Just keep it simple for her. No more than 7 slivers at a time. I'm taking Zekrom and Zoey to the vet tomorrow. Zoey is due for her "yearly" DES Implant (this will be her second one) and Zekrom gets his glucose re-checked since it's been a month since his (first) implant. Tom (husband-I can't remember if I've mentioned him or not (oops!)) finally has a Saturday off so he gets to come this time! I'm sure he will comfort the babies from the bad mommy! (sniff) Yay! You're doing so well!!!!!! I'm so proud of you both!!!!!

Yes, last night I was more under the impression that she just wasn't that hungry. She finished the bowl but didn't lick it obsessively or follow me around with intent. (Help! I'm being hunted by a hungry ferret!) Cool, I'll play around with the slivers and stick to the 1 cube only plan. So is Zoey getting the implant every 6 months? That's the Rx for adrenal, isn't it? Maisie got a preventative implant last September (the vet had a couple left over from before the recall, so lucky) and I'm hoping it'll still be available next Sep! Good luck at the vet's, I hope the Zees aren't too traumatized and that your husband takes some of the heat for you Have a good weekend. I'll stay in touch. :thankyou:

Yes, unfortunately both Zoey and Zekrom have adrenal disease Zoey was diagnosed last year before she even turned 3 years old! I was devastated since I was worried she had insulinoma, I never even suspected adrenal. Luckily she does NOT have insulinoma and she's doing well with the implant! She has a little blood stained fur (she's mostly white) but she did fantastic today! Her bg was 99 and Zekrom's was 103! They both have to go back in 6 months to check their bg again so I will demand that Tom comes again! They slept most of the ride where they usually scratch at the carrier the entire 2 hour round trip! Tom was impressed with the vet too! Good day so far! How is your weekend coming along? Do you take Maisie outside for walks? The weather is beautiful here! I hope the weather is good where you are also!

Wow, great BGs for Z & Z, that's great! Interesting that they settled down with your husband in the car. Maisie never settles down much either, but I always wonder if I or someone could pay more attention to her whether she'd be calmer. All meals the same this weekend: I give her 1 cube of soup (or 1 egg Sat PM) with 7 slivers, and she eats it all but leaves 2-4 slivers behind. I don't give her seconds and she doesn't beg. Weekend weigh in Sunday morning before breakfast: exactly the same as last week, 2 lbs 0.5 oz! I should have put in the window A/C this weekend -- I'll probably have to do it tomorrow morning, because it's supposed to be 85 degrees tomorrow! Not ferret-friendly. Hopefully it's a little cooler in PA

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not sure if it was them hearing our voices that kept them calm? When I would take them by myself, they are in the carrier in the front seat so they can see me (and for me to see them) and they were on Tom's lap in the front seat this time too... Either way, it worked out well and we all slept well Saturday night! (giggle) I'm so glad Maisie still did well with the slivers! Did you change the sizes or shapes? Or did you keep them the same? I talked with Jason ( bitbyter) over the weekend about trying chicken again. He suggested to make chicken soup (a few days worth) and see how she does. If she gets funky poop, to stop the chicken immediately and then we know chicken is not an option; but if she's okay (no funky poops), then we can work chicken into the mix. How does that sound? Yes, it's supposed to get pretty warm here today also! (I think low 80's though) Since we live on the top floor of our apartment building, I've had the a/c on since the beginning of April! Haha! (it's set to kick on at 72) The things we do to keep our furbabies happy!
