It's been a long time since I've been on here so I think I've lost my username, but my ferret whom I've had for about a year now has been poofing an excessive amount lately. I mean, I know it's normal for them to do it from time to time, but lately it feels like it's become more frequent and for no apparent reason (he doesn't appear to be startled or anything he'll just be walking around doing his usual bit). I don't know if it's just because he hasn't really done it since I first brought him home, but the smell seems to be somehow stronger and taking a lot longer to dissipate than I rcallemember.. I feel silly for asking, but should I be concerned? he absolutely hates his carrier, so I'd hate to needlessly stress him out on a visit to the vet just because I'm a worrywart.. ._.

Hi PeachDragon! I don't think it's anything to worry about. I have two ferrets who are able to poof, and one of them poofs all the time, and like you said, for no apparent reason. He poofs when he's playing, sleeping, eating, flirting, and sometimes just walking across the room, doing nothing special. I think some ferrets are just farty.

Is your boy intact? He would also be starting to smell a bit hobbish too. Scenting is something the boys do in the spring ciao
