Hi guys, I haven't been on here in a few weeks been busy sorting wedding plans out etc. my first post back and it is with great sadness that I must tell you my lovely little socks passed away during the night. This was completley unexpected. She was absolutely fine the day before no signs of anything. As you can now imagine I am extremely concerned about the other fuzzies. We had moved our eldest martin into the house as he is so old he is showing signs of slowing down. We had no idea this would happen. We are taking the 2 girls to the vet on Monday to get them checked out. I can only think that it was heart failure as like I said there was no sign of illness in any of my ferrets. This is extremely upsetting for me and my mrs also for pheonix who lived with socks. So she is now in the house living in my front room until the vets okay so her to go back outside.
Dook ok in peace little socks your sister misses you and so do we.

I'm so sorry to read this... It's always the hardest when they pass unexpectedly, the shock is much bigger Easy journey, little one! I know it's hard, but did you consider doing a necropsy? It might shed light and bring you some peace of mind...

I so sorry for your loss! The sudden unexpected ones are the worst. I would seriously consider a necropsy to be sure it is nothing that can affect the others

The vet did suggest an autopsy but I declined it. The girls are good my oh is at home looking after them. I've gone in and disinfected everything they have outdoors. Along with all their bedding and toys. So they will be in now until the vet okays them both. Thanks for all your kinds words guys. Yeah it's harder than I thought. The fact that it is so soon after my dog passed. She passed on the same date only 2 months on. I have only now realised that. I declined the autopsy simply because she was so peaceful. She didn't look distressed or in discomfort. Simply looked as though she fell asleep. Pheonix is being spoilt rotten as they have been together since day one with us. The thing with pheonix we knew her breeding background as for socks we knew nothing. We had her given to us by a gentleman that didn't know his ferret was pregnant. He said a stray poley must have bred with her as he only has a female.
I have buried her in the back garden in her favourite hood. She's good now. She's up their terrorising the dog again. Looks like he didn't get long off from the fuzzies.
Thanks again for your kind words. This has been my first ferret loss and surprisingly the least suspected as we thought it was going to be our eldest marten. He is 9 now and not at his best.
Thanks

I'm so sorry, Dave. That is far to young to die, and what a horrible shock. At least it seems like she didn't suffer. I'm glad you're looking out for Phoenix; hopefully she can integrate with the older pair? DIP little one.

Blue I tergrating at the moment is a no go. Gwen my eldest girl torments pheonix as she is super protective of marten. But sadly I dont think marten will live out this year. He is very old now. We have already moved him inside perminantly so we can keep an eye on him. But when he finally does go we will try and inter grate then as pheonix will be a bit older and able to defend herself better. Thanks for everyone's responses though. It truly means a lot.
