The vet gave Lincoln Antibiots for his cuts for preventive measures. She said scratching at the neck is a sign of adrenal disease, but other than mounting and POSSIBLY scratching at neck (might be from fighting), he has no other symptoms. She thinks RIley may not actually be fixed despite the two Marshall ink dots. Apparently it is common for Marshall Ferrets to be tagged even though they were missed in being fixed. So it may be her releasing pheromones and causing all of our boys to want to mount her. Although, last night, Lincoln started to hump her and I took him away. I placed him beside Bonkers (also a boy), when he mounted Bonkers and started humping! He hasn't done it to one of the boys before. Anyways, so we take Riley in about 2 weeks to see if she's actually been fixed properly. If she is, then it's likely all of our boys randomly got Adrenal Disease at the same time. Erg. We're considering doing the Adrenal Panel for $105, rather than Lupron for $50 (despite them telling ME it was $38).

From what my vet told me, the problem with the panel is that they only test for the 5 most common hormones, out of about 28 if I remember correctly. So you can have false negatives. And your vet is right- sometimes Marshall's botches the surgeries, and there can be vestiges left from spays. If that's the case, though, she should have gone into heat, with the enlarged vulva, etc.

Keep us posted - there have been reports of incomplete spays in MF ferrets.

If Riley doesn't have a swollen vulva...she's not in season and yes, it's not unknown for Marshals to leave pieces behind I believe if they do the ferret does go through a season. One thing to consider....if your one boy is adrenal...he may be setting everyone else off. I do find that the adrenal kids often prefer usually one of the more passive fuzzes to hump but if their fav isn't there they will go at another. I found that when Captain Jack was really bad, everyone else was having a "good" time too. Now that he's on Des, everyone's ok. ciao

We are pretty sure Lincoln is Adrenal; he seems to be the most 'active' haha. I thought Riley should have the swollen vulva as well, and I do not see anything wrong with her. It may just be like Heather has said. Anyways, his cuts are finally almost all healed. The vet appointment is 21st, so hopefully everyone can hold out that long with the hormones! Poor babies

We know how difficult a situation it can be, believe me. That's the reason I've got 3 playgroups instead of two . Zeus terrorizes Suki when his adrenal is kicking up a couple days before his lupron is due.

We got in 1 week, but we decided to do the Lupron as well as take Riley to get checked out. I'll let you know if Riley is spayed or not.

Definitely a good idea to have her looked at anyway. An ultrasound should be able to tell you for sure. Not sure if an xray would show remnants of a botched spay for sure. It might.

Well the vet says Riley is fixed. They gave her and Lincoln both Lupron. Supposedly should see results in a month, yet it's been about a month and nothing at all has changed. Riley is as ornery as ever, and Lincoln still humps everyone.

Sometimes it takes 2-3 injections to start seeing a difference in the symptoms.

It took two shots for Sinnead. Only one for both Zeus and Athena. So give it another month, anyway. With Riley, it could just as easily be because of Lincoln. Once he's under control, her behaviour may just modify.

It took 2 shots for Pooka's lupron to work too. It takes the des implant about 4 to 6 weeks to really kick in (there are some subte changes) but about that long for things to even out. So it's about the same length of time to see if either is going to work. ciao
