Most people don't want to see that in their wee slinkies but that being said, it is what they're made for. I like seeing the satisfaction they get out of their diet. ciao

We're doing pinkies now too. We tried preterm guinea pig, they were smaller than the rats. They got to be part of the circle of life..but my guy got diarrhea, not sure if it's related or not he's better now. We had one gerbil pinky, it was smaller and went over well. The rat pinky was too big I think..I put it in last night and ended up throwing it out this afternoon because he just carried it around. I picked up 6 mice pinkies today. I'm hoping they'll get eaten! I don't know how to serve up the rats...chop them up and mix them in with chunks of chicken?

I got most of mine from a guy who used to work at a home and garden store that sells small pets, he raises rodents from his home. I got mice from a guy that works at the same place. They don't usually sell pinkies at that store but I gave them my number. The guy had some mice born a few days later. The worst thing is that the pet breeders get a little sad about their babies getting used as food..rodent people are weird....I had to show them pictures of my ferrets and how sickly Franco was before he started eating raw. Ferrets look close enough to rodents to pull on their heart strings and not look at me like I'm a mad serial killer.
Petco has them too. 3/$5 Try looking on Craigslist maybe? If there are people selling gerbils, rats or mice they might sell you some pinkies in the future.

A lot of people wouldnt sell me rats for pets because i also have a pet snake. Not to mention a bunch of rude youtube comments from rodent people back when i used to post snake videos. I need to feed my snake kibble because its less cruel

I'm tempted to try a mouse with my ferrets but not sure I could cope with peeling off bits of mouse from their cage. I've been poorly recently and even cutting up meat is making me feel a little nauseous, it's not just meat though, even my favourite meals are turning my stomach a bit. But I will try it as soon as I can stomach it. Being the owner of a snake and rodents I often have people ask me if I feed the rodents I have to the snake. My answer is all way NO! The rodents here are as much a member of the family as the snake or ferrets. I actually spent over £100 at the vets yesterday because Rosie the hamster wasn't well. I could never live feed, or kill them. I've thought about raising my own to feed but couldn't end their lives. I do with I had a stronger stomach for this sort of thing.

I do with I had a stronger stomach for this sort of thing. i feel the same way. i would LOVE to breed my own rats for feeders, but deep down i will always be a rat person and it killed me to put down my pet rats when it was their time to go. i prefer to buy my mammal feeders already dead. the only reason i dont with my bugs is beacause they are just so easy to breed and i need to make sure they are filled with yummy things for my geckos cleaning up rat or mouse bits wouldnt bother me too much because ive had to do that before when my old pet rats would eat a dead cagemate if someone died in the middle of the night. in fact i have the lower jaw of my favorite boy because of that type of situation. and i love working with dead things, its one of my favorite parts of my job and is becoming a fun little hobby at home
