I'm sorry, I've been in the hospital for a few days. My mom wouldn't give the ferrets soup, so they've been having kibble. But I'm making soup and cutting up slivers right now

I hope you're feeling better. When you are up and around, catch me up and we'll move forward. Take it easy though and don't push yourself. :wave2:

The kids are doing well. They seem pretty excited to have soup again, which is good. I made soup for Bentley that was 50/50 kibble/raw. He was a little more reluctant to eat it, but he did eat it. It's snowing here yet again, which is probably delaying the carnivore care being delivered. I also have some wysong archetype samples coming and I'm going to order one of the sample packs from caseys hidden pantry, which is Stella & Chewys, ziwipeak and afs. I just thought I might as well try as many as I can before I buy something and find out they don't like it. I also found out that there's a store near here that sells Stella & Chewys. Its about 30 miles from here, so I'll probably check it out and see what they have if I'm ever closer to that area.

I saw on the news that you are getting slammed with snow.
How are you feeling?
I'm glad that everyone was happy to have some soup. They probably feel better on it and will be more satisfied.
You might give that store a call first. There are different versions of Stella and Chewy's. The holistic pet store that I go, is in Nashville. They only carry Stella and Chewy's for Dogs. You want the feline version. Mine like tummy ticklin turkey and duck, duck, goose. I keep it on hand for emergencies and lazy days.
I had mine on the Wysong Archetypal 1, (which is FDR) for quite awhile. The Wysong Archetypal 2 is kibble. FDR is expensive, but I would love to have had mine stay on it. With five, it just costs too much. You can also take a look at Whole Life, they have a range of FDR products and on Amazon, they offer a sampler pack of different flavors.
The downside to FDR is that they will need help getting their teeth cleaned. Gizzards can do that, as well as bones.
Have you checked Bentley's BG in the last few days?

I'm feeling good now, just tired all the time. I've been getting up and feeding them as often as I can. They're being a bit more stubborn with the slivers now, but I've been working with them on it. I'll definitely make sure to call before I go, and I'll look into whole life as well. I just want to find something that Bentley will eat if we ever needed to feed, so I'm trying to try as much as I can. I haven't checked it, but I will tomorrow. I don't have any needles left so I'll go and get some tonight. I've realized that some of them really like the soup more when it's mostly frozen. I put a little water on it because I'm afraid they'll get their tongues stuck to it

The wysong samples came in. We got three samples of the chicken and rabbit archetypes and one of the chicken dream treats. Of course only Yogi ate some of the dream treat. The rest are too picky with treats I tried one of the rabbit ones with them. I added water to it and made them all try it. They all willingly ate it. Snowy seemed to really like it and Bentley even ate it from the bowl. I've always thought FDR smells weird. Kind of like wood, I think. I'm not sure why.

It's so funny, but they do have preferences as to how they like their food served. Mine prefer things warm, but I keep reading about some of them loving "meatsicles". Alot of times, once we figure out their food quirks, we move forward a little faster.
I never noticed FDR smelling like wood. I have a lousy sense of smell though.
Are you feeling better? Everyone has been sick this winter, I'm about ready for winter to be over. I think it will be an early spring. I saw our groundhog in the yard yesterday, and everyone says that they are seeing shedding and weight loss already.

I've never really fed it to them warm. I tried it once or twice and they didn't care much. I ran out of soup so I just tried giving them some plain slivers. They ate about an ounce total. Even Bentley ate some of it. I'm thawing the stuff for soup right now. And I just realized that we're running out of hearts so I'll have to make a trip to the farm that Erinn told me about. It about an hour away and I have all next week off so I can go then.
I am feeling mostly better, although now I feel like I'm getting a cold. I am so ready for winter to be over too. We're supposed to get another foot or two of snow this weekend. It's crazy. Snowy is definitely starting to lose his winter coat. I love their winter coats. I plan to hopefully weigh them all tonight or tomorrow, so we'll see if they're losing their winter weight as well.

Can ferrets have pigeon eggs? I have two homing pigeons that lay two eggs about once a month and after the next two they lay, I'm gonna start taking them away and replacing them with fake eggs. I was thinking instead of just throwing them away, I could give them to the ferrets. They're pretty small eggs, maybe half the size of chicken eggs.

We went out and about yesterday. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond. I should think they could have your pigeon's eggs. What a cool thing, you have homing pigeons?
With wild animals, we suggest freezing to kill of any parasites. Yours are tame and I would think that they are in good health. I'll post to the Mentors Board, just in case someone knows of some reason that they shouldn't have pigeon eggs.
I have so many questions, lol. Only two a month? How long have you had them? What are their names and can I see pictures? :wave2:

Yeah, they only lay two a month, I'm not sure why. I don't know much about birds. I've only really had mammals and fish. We've had them since October, I think. We weren't planning to keep them, but since we've had them inside, no one will take them until summer. They don't really have names; I just call them mommy birdie and daddy birdie. We also have a baby that's a month old and I just call him baby birdie haha. The white one is the female(I assume at least; I'm not completely sure). And the second picture is of the dad and the baby when the baby was a few days old. I have all kinds of weird pets. My house is a bit like a zoo.

They are so sweet. I've never had birds before, but I love seeing them. I like the soft cooing sound.
You are fine with the eggs. I heard back from several senior mentors and they said, to simply give them the eggs (you don't have to crack them), it will provide some fun and stimulation for them. Two eggs and five ferrets, hmm...we might need a video, pretty please.
How's everyone doing with their soupies and slivers?

They coo a lot. It's a bit annoying after a while, but it is a pretty soothing sound.
I actually just gave them some eggs(chicken) yesterday. Snowy and Hershey are the only ones who eat them on their own consistently. I gave them three and Snowy and Hershey tried to eat them all. I got the other four to eat some as well though.
They're all doing well with soup and slivers, except Bentley who still won't eat soup on his own. We're almost at 50/50 slivers/soup and the slivers are mostly pretty tiny, as small as I can make them.
I finally got my mom to let me switch one of my cats to raw. I found out yesterday that, although he's 9 pounds, he only needs around 4 oz everyday. Its pretty similar to ferrets, although I think cats need less bone. I'm still trying to learn a lot before I actually switch him though.

I'm glad that they will (mostly) eat eggs easily. They're so good for them. After seeing the baby pigeon though, I want all the eggs to become babies. We're in farm country here and when you go into the local stores during the chicken raising season, they all have the cutest baby chicks. I want to bring them all home. I'm sure my five would like that, but not for the same reasons. :heehee:
I think Bentley likes the attention. That's okay though. He won't need the hand feeding forever. Try making a few slices very long and very thin. Like spaghetti noodles. See if anyone enjoys the meat noodles. They may surprise you and like them.
I'll be curious to see how your cat does on raw. I wonder if his coat will change? Ferrets and Cats are pretty similar from what I've read. I do know that ferrets need more Taurine than cats do. Did you look for a raw feeding forum for cats? I'm pretty sure we have some ferrents who feed their cats raw, you can always build a thread and ask.
We're suppose to get 7 inches of snow. I can't believe it. If we get 7 inches, how many will you get? Maybe you'll get some snow days and get to hang out at home. :wave2:
