My baby boy has had fleas for ages and i'm at my wits end with not knowing what to do.
I've tried several different over the counter treatments (obviously at a safe time interval between them) but even when it looks like I've got rid of them for a week or so they always come back.
I've tried washing his bedding around the time of treating him, but that hasn't worked either. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I feel like a terrible fuzzy mum for letting him remain so uncomfortable.

Talk to your vet about a flea remedy. At the same time vacuum daily with a flea collar IN the bag. Toss the bag daily. Wash all bedding daily as well

You have to remember that fleas work in a 2 week cycle and spend most of their time on the floor, in bedding laying eggs to produce more fleas. I've found that when the cycle has got away from me the only solution is to use vet prescribed flea remedies. Over the counter petstore remedies are not only dangerous they usually are useless. Yes, it's more expensive to use the vet prescribed flea remedy but you know it works and in the end if frustration is also a cost so it is cheaper. Bedding is washed almost daily, vacuuming is daily and the wee ones are flea combed twice daily. Dog is bathed and he also gets flea treat from the vet as does the cat. I find by doing this I can usually get rid of the flea problem within the month and definitely by the end of two months ciao

Thanks, I'll be sure to try that. Does bathing the fuzzy help at all?

No need just go to www.vetdepot.com and order Revolution. Give them ur vet's contact info and then they will send it when ur vet gives approval. Shipping is fast too and they're really reasonable. They have free shipping until tomorrow. Get the one for cats UNDER 5 POUNDS. Once a month apply to shoulder blade and make sure u part the hair and get it in the skin. It comes with stickers so u can mark ur calendar. U can get 6 tubes for only $53 plus ship. Which is the best around. If you go thru ur vet you'll pay alot more for the same thing.

Poor little guy, fleas are a miserable thing. When we lived in Florida, I found fleas on Ponce. We had brought home a Warehouse cat and she gave him fleas. I bought a flea shampoo for ferrets and gave Ponce (and the cat) a bath. The soap says to leave it on for five minutes. I went to the vet and bought a flea medicine and it went onto his should blades. Then I did the whole flea vacuuming thing, washed all the bedding and then vacuumed again. Not everyone will agree with the flea shampoo, but I didn't know anything about ferrets then and it did work, with no side effects.

It's tough to get rid of them, especially if your fuzz goes outside. You're going to have to find the flea control product that works, and as Heather said, don't even try the ones in the supermarkets. Hartz, Sargents, etc. Here in Florida, I've had no luck with Frontline, and after using Advantage II for years, it seems less effective.

Would you use one tube per ferret? How do you distribute the medicine? I have two ferrets who have fleas.

I use Advantage for cats, 2 drops per ferret between the shoulders. One tube gives me two treatments each for 4 ferrets. I don't have to use it every month. All of my animals get treated at the same time and I don't treat again until I start seeing signs of fleas again. Sometimes I can go 8 months without a problem, other times I have to treat after 3 months.

Just for fleas, no. But Revolution treats a lot of other parasites as well, so may need to be used monthly for those.
