Try taking her BG right before a feeding after a 3 hour period and see where it is. If it's lower than 30-35 I'd stay at every three hours but if it's higher you could probably go to four.

Wow!! Bella's BG is much better today....after 4 hours of not eating, her BG was 61.2 (3.4)!! I fed her every 3 hours during the day and during the night I fed her at 2am and 6am. I also split the pred into 3 doses instead of 2! It's never been this high since I got her!! :boing: I also called my vet and she is gone for the week, however her partner increased the pred from 0.3ml twice/day to 0.5ml twice/day! (dance) I'm going to continue splitting it 3 times/day. After 4 hours without eating her BG was around the 30 (1.7) mark. I just want her to be able to eat without me having to wake her up. I want her to have a great life!

It sounds like splitting her meds into three doses was an awesome idea! Looking forward to seeing how she does with the increased dose, too. With the increased dose hopefully you can get a full night of sleep, you need to take care of yourself, too. What's your ratio of chunks to soup right now?

I'm looking forward to seeing how much better she gets too. I'm very anxious to have a full night sleep..it's hard to get that REM sleep when it's broken up, but we do what we have to do for our babies. I am increasing the chunks when I feed her. I will use my hand and it goes well...but it's still more soup. I'm just trying to make sure she eats to get her BG up. But hand feeding her helps get the chunks into her. I went out shopping for the cage today

Those cushions and toys are so cute And I'm glad to hear Bella's feeling well enough to play. If you want to we can stay where you are in the switch until Bella's BG is stabilized. As long as their soup is balanced it won't hurt them to have soup and chunks for a while.

I think that's a good idea. I just want to get her BG stable. Thanks for understanding

Hello racheld :wave3: Well today was BG testing and weight. Bella's BG is at 48.6 (2.7) after not eating for 4 hrs. I think I'm going to take it in another hour and see where it is at. Her weight is the same at 1 lb 10oz. She is still more active than she was before. I now will let them out to roam the house with supervision of course, and she goes all over the place. Mia's BG...WOW!! Not sure if something is wrong, but it's at 147.6 (8.2) Is that normal??? Now she did eat twice this morning....once at 7:30 and again at 8:30 eating a total of 1.4oz. Her weight has not changed either at 1 lb 13oz.

It sounds like Bella's BG is improving a little And it sounds like she's adjusting to having a lower BG than normal, which some do. Mia's BG is a little high, I am asking some other mods if they think it's a concern (I would guess no). How long after eating did you check her BG?

I think she is adjusting to a lower BG too racheld Mia's really shocked me! I'm glad to see hers up as long as it's not a problem at the other end of things. I checked her BG about 2 hours after she ate.

Heather said Mia's blood sugar shouldn't be a problem. You could try fasting for 4-6 hours and testing her to see if she falls closer to a normal range, but diabetes is pretty rare in ferrets.

Hello Rachel! I have some great news! Today was BG testing and weigh in day and I'm happy to announce that after 4 hours of fasting, Bella's BG was 68.4 (3.8)!!! I know we have a ways to go but that's the best it's been! She has also gained 2 ounces...so she now weighs in at 1lb 12oz! :boing: Mia's BG is normal compared to last week where it was in the 140s, today after 4 hours of fasting she was at 91.8 (5.1) She did however lose 2 ounces..she went from 1lb 13oz to 1lb 11oz. I know they could fluctuate just like we do, so I'm not too worried. She is still a brat as always. lol I should have checked it 1 hour after she ate to see what is was at. What a great feeling to have Bella's BG increase like that and to top it off I don't get up during the middle of the night anymore to make sure she is eating!
