1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
Here on this forum when i was looking for more information on ferrets when i found out i was getting a pair! i was against it, because i wasn't sure if i would be able to commit to it.. But i want the best for my slinkies, and after reading some of the benefits of raw, i started getting ready right away.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I will be going fully to the franken diet. I don't want to buy kibble again. I would have loved to do the whole prey, and want to raise my own feeders, but i don't have the space to have them(breeding tanks), or the heart to humanly kill them by the dislocation of their neck... I did look into the CO2 chambers, but i feel that the franken would be the better route for me at this time.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
One was the benefits for them, and myself.. Better smell, (which makes EVERYONE happier! ), healthier ferret, (which also means cheaper vet costs) I'm kind of sounding selfish here, but i swear its all for them! haha
But the other thing that also got me thinking is that I'm going to school for a vet tech, and hopefully i will work my way into a zoo.. And thinking about what they feed their creatures, they more than likely wont feed an animal pellets when they are used to raw prey. So i kinda had the same concept with my ferrets. In the wild, they don't eat the berries or fruit that you see in these store made foods..
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment? Yes. I understood that from the begining, and was one of there reasons that i wasnt wanting to switch. But i got my girls at about 6 months of age, and I read that the older they get the harder it will be... So again being selfish, ( but it benefits them too! I promise it really is for them! haha) i switched them to soupies on 9/26 and they ate the soup with out complaint. Today i put in some slivers in hope they will eat the chunk of meat.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for? I have two girls that I had gotten from a woman, who went through a divorce, and could not keep them. She said she had just gotten them and they were about 6 months.. (so about 7 months now) TeaCup is my light passive one. MiMi is the darker one who is a sassy girl. She is the dominate one, and always causing trouble. haha. I dont believe they have any health problems, and dont believe they are overwight or under. Ive had them for about 3 weeks.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup? They were on marshalls kibble diet, but i swiched to soup yesterday
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened? N/A
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share? Im going back to school for Vet Tech, and i currently work in a Vets clinic.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
Its kinda embarrassing... but im on it way too much.. so i have access to it 24/7 lol even at work..
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
I believe they are after this post. The Mimi didnt wanna sit still (go figure) so she was a little bit more difficult. lol
11. Have you met the requirements for this program? Do you have your scale, a place to access meats, hearts, livers, etc? Yes, i have a scale (unsure how great it is...) but i do have one at work too, all the meat and egg shells etc.
