Watson is our youngest at about a few months shy of 2 years old. He is a waardy but I'm not sure that has an effect on either of the issues we have been having for the last few months.
All three of our ferrets scratch when they wake up, as part of their routine but he is different. He will almost violently wake up and come bolting out of the cage to find a place to sit and scratch and chew for minutes on end. His coat is the softest of the three, and he has no hot spots I can find on him from excessive scratching. Between his shoulders is a little light pink every once in a while, but that could either be from his scratching, or from Sherlock licking him while sleeps. We have added a humidifier to the room where the cage is, and have been using it pretty often but have not seen any improvement for him. Any other ideas for us to try? They are on a raw diet, and get Salmon Oil for treats rather than Ferretone. The oil does not have any additives like rosemary.
Between our three he also seems to have nightmares a lot more often. I'm kind of guessing they are bad dreams. He is deaf so his communication sounds are rarely what would be expected. He screams like he is being murdered simply because he is losing at play fighting some days so I've taken that in to some consideration, but it is still a concern. He will start crying in his sleep and his legs start twitching. When this happens I often pick him up and try to cuddle with him a bit, but that often causes him to wake up as none of ours go into "dead sleep".
I'm at a loss on how to help with either issue. We've replaced his old bed with a blanket he loves to see if that helped but it didn't seem to with either issues.
Thoughts or ideas? We would greatly appreciate it.
