I have three boys, Aramis, Gizmo and recently adopted Gabe (I may have introduced them other threads before).
I am trying to keep them on a balanced diet, mostly based on raw, with a little quality kibble (Orijen) always in their cage. However, they do 3-4 raw meals a day. Nonetheless, I have to fight with the preferences here, they wouldn't touch anything that wasn't chicken but recently, noticed they started to favour horse, venison and a little lamb from time to time.
I had Aramis (hybrid polecat-ferret) since he was about 8 weeks old, he was used to eating raw since he was a baby, but when he grew up, he suddenly refused to eat it for a while (weird!). I mentioned it to a specialist doctor and they checked him up, nothing seemed to be wrong. He is a small boy, just 1,5kg at almost 9 months old, though, now he's back on eating raw, but only if i sprinkle it with a tiny amout of kibble. he loves eating (freeze) dried meat though, but that insanely expensive.
Gizmo is the least picky, 1,8kg at 7 months (he's, as we were later informed, a polecat), also had him since he was a baby. He would eat almost anything, except for beef and pork. but that's not tragic. He eats meat or organs straight raw, no problem, though he does prefer them as a mush or small pieces.
My bigger worry is Gabe (we don't know his origins, only that he comes from a bit of a shady place where you're not sure if you get a polecat or a ferret, but I don't bother). He is a rescue ferret that we adopted a couple of weeks ago, he's 2 years 9m old. he's small and skinny, only 1,3kg, and the previous owner wasn't exactly treating him right (mostly caged). He was used to eating some random ferret kibble with horrible content and he was addicted to wet cat food (and thus, the sugar). We cut out the cat food completely, and after I read the lable on the kibble - creeped out and got rid of it (it was packed with rice, wheat and corn). We gave him a bit of kibble on the first day (from our kibble) and chicken hearts and then horse meat. Surprisingly enough, he was willing to eat raw from the first serving, no kibble blend needed. What I wanted to ask is - is it advisable to switch so radically? Because he seems to be doing just fine, a lot of energy, even gained about 50-70 gr since he arrived, but I don't want to cause any health problems or shock or anything like that...
I will be greatful for any advice or opinions, thanks!
