So, A few of you might know how I'm getting a little girl from my cousin. He lives a few hours away, but can no longer keep her, so we're trying to work out picking her up/dropping her off, etc.
She's around 3, and I won't bring her home until I get her checked out by the vet. I don't want to chance her bringing home anything to MoJo. I was thinking a wellness exam (I'm not sure how general it is, if it involves blood tests, etc. Anyone know the general things that are done?) But I'm on the fence about vaccinations. I'm planning on getting MoJo re-vaccinated at 1-1/2 years, then not going vaccinations anymore. But with her, I'm not sure what to do. She had vaccinations last year, when my cousin took her, and I know that some people on here do not vaccinate.
What are the pros/cons? Personal opinions? Thanks!

Do you have proof she was indeed vaccinated? Was it rabies, distemper, or both? If so, I wouldn't bother revaccinating her - she likely have sufficient antibodies to protect her from distemper, especially if she was vaccinated at 2 years old.

I doubt he'd be able to find it. He moved out of the house he was in, bad circumstances so he really has nothing with him. I can see if he can call the vet he went to and have them fax over the records. Will I need them when I go to the vets with her? Will they see her without them?

Or would they require she be re-vaccinated?

You might also think about ADV testing little one before coming into your home.
Just suggestion.

I would want the records for myself, to know that she was vaccinated (lots of people lie ). The vet can't require you to do anything its your money, and you can spend it how you want I don't see a point in revaccinating her if she's been properly vaccinated once, but ADV testing is definitely a smart idea. Also check for mites, fleas, signs of flu etc.

Well, it's my cousin, so I really doubt he'd lie. But if it was anyone else, I would definitely demand records I'm definitely going to have her tested for ADV. I didn't even think of that, thanks!

If you trust your cousin, I would just go with the ADV testing and a wellness check (check for earmites and such). I certainly wouldn't be vaccinating for anything else on a 2 yr old ferret. JMO of course I'm one of the anti-vaccine set ;D ciao

JMO of course I'm one of the anti-vaccine set ;D ciao I'm on the same page as Heather. The ADV test seems really simple and inexpensive - $15 and I don't believe you even have to go to the vet for that - www.avecon.com/advabelisa.htmlThere are ample resources on no-vaccines, but it's definitely something you have to research yourself and do a lot of reading. Best to research before you make any decisions though, to my way of thinking. There are lots of list groups full of files and files of info. justsayno2vaccs <- A list on yahoo. truthaboutvaccines <- Recommends Pay McKay's "Natural Immunity", but I really don't care for the attitudes on that list, so I just use them for their info and have never participated. RawPaws <- Another list that does not support vaccination. Besides the lists with files of research and information there are anti-vaccine groups and websites for people out there too that definitely shouldn't be disregarded as they have lots of valid info. Hope that helps.

Hmm, I was on one of those lists, Candice, truthaboutvaccines I think, don't quote me on that but I think that was the one. It's been a long time since I was there. Very aggressive. Tons and tons of information though, good site to lurk on but I've seen a pack of wolves treat a kill better than the newbies on that site. I was on there for the better part of a year (took me that long to get through all the information....fantastic) ciao
