I looked at the marshalls play pens but they seem small for the amount id like to have in it and florida always has birds so id like a top. I found this m.ebay.com/itm/311136621456?nav=SEARCHOpinions? They will be supervised because i have diggers and i feel they will dig out just wanted some thoughts.

I haven't bought a playpen before. I have seen that they have an expansion panel set and you can buy another cover for the top. www.amazon.com/dp/B00IKPYKWG/ref=nav_kindle_btnThe one on Ebay looks good. I would find a way to secure it and make sure that they don't tunnel under. I'm from Florida also. Those Ospreys and Herons are mighty predators. I'd want to supervise and not leave the little ones alone outside.

I've been wanting to build a nice one where they can go in and out as they please like a ramp to the window and an enclosed tunnel to their enclosure, but I feel like the rental company would flip. I shelter our ferrets and feel they need some outside time I dont mind walks I just feel they would have more fun with their buddies. There was a hawk on our neighbors mailbox that completely freaked me out. Seriously people and cars did not phase it.

Hawks are serious business, there is a memorial park at the end of my block and one was on a fence there, he stared at us as we got closer and closer and then opened his wings and jumped as a warning to stop...
You could always DIY something, plywood top and bottom and chicken/rabbit wire with 2x4s as beams. It could be as spacious as you'd want and you can make it safe as well.

I like it but would also worry about tunneling, so would watch them close. My mother built a 'catio' w/chicken wire & we split it up...we are making it bigger for the ferrets as the cats on her side don't use it much...so I have been so lucky.

I'd worry more about the hawks. We even have bald eagles around our little patch of Florida. That pen looks great, as long as the bars are no more than an inch spacing. It doesn't cost any more than a Marshall's with a 3 panel extension and comes with a cover.

I do like the idea of the 2x4 with chicken wire. We've talked about doing that alot just haven't because it gets so hot and humid really they'd only safely use it may be 4 to 5 months of the year even at night in the summer it's 80 with 90% humidity If we go that route how far do you need to bury the wire so they don't tunnel out? What are the dimensions for the marshalls with the extended panels? There was owls at the other house we were at I took pepper out one night and it came back every night for a week.

I have a tiny garden against the house in the enclosed patio. One of mine had tunneled down more that 1/2 foot (sideways kinda) and I wouldn't doubt they can dig deeper...not sure. How about chicken wire on the bottom, no? I think it would take them awhile to tunnel much. I wouldn't leave them without a bottom but that's only my thought. Yeah it is really humid there...it curls my hair...seriously. ALSO...ohhh be careful of raccoons, years ago I had rabbits that I let roam free in the yard but when one had babies they were put into cage at night. One night a raccoon actually ate at their tiny feet & chewed some toes off, it killed one by pulling its arm through & chewing it off to the shoulder. Sorry, I know it sounds crazy but I am not exaggerating in any way...that baby died in our arms,[vet said heart attack from shock] it was awful & sad.

I like the chicken crate idea, maybe lay down a tarp underneath it protruding from all sides or wood or plastic floor of some sort, also check the bar spacing that it's not too wide for your little ones to squeeze through.
