So I fed beef heart for the first time yesterday and this morning they had REALLY dark, almost black shiny poop. Is that a result of the digested blood from the heart muscle or should I be worried?

I always get dark stools on beef heart for about 24 hours. Seems normal as it goes away and cones back when heart is fed again

Ok, good. I figured it was because of the heart (they get similar poop when I feed a liver meal) but I wasn't sure. Do you usually feed organs alone at a meal, or mix in with meat? I would mix in meat with them to help with poop consistency, but I have a feeling Asher would eat all the heart and the other two wouldn't get any.

My kids get liver and heart soup + ground turkey and pumpkin. They're still kinda dark though

Duck heart is the only organ meat I feed on its own, but that's only because my brats wont eat other organ meat solo. I feed them the ground mixes from HareToday, so they get a little bit of organ every day

I always fed them separately. Heart one meal, then organ meats on a different day, followed by a bone in meal for the next one.

Enough of my guys hate liver so they get some ground mix that has rmb, meat, liver, heart, raw egg and pumpkin daily. Anytime that you feed organ meats, or blood you will get dark tarry stools. I find that it sometimes happens when they eat a heavy mouse meal too.

I don't understand why my ferret is so picky with chicken hearts. He likes liver (it makes his poop dark and his poop smells awful like a slaughterhouse). He turns his nose up when I try to give him chicken hearts! I feed commercial raw but I like to give extra organ meat once in a while. The dog drools over them. He gets so excited when he sees them..

My dog eats them like they are popcorn. He even catches them mid air if you toss them at him. LOL.

My kids love the chicken hearts but will not touch chicken liver. They are not fans of beef.
When I feed my kids, they get chunks of raw meat. It's a mixture of raw meat in their dish.

Yeah you get some dark loose stools with organs, I feed organs sometimes ground up with the ground venison I have, more because they don't like venison alone since they seem to like organs fine but I think a couple don't eat the kidney alone. They all love hearts and liver and don't seem to care if it's beef, pork, chicken or turkey, the cat only eats poultry but she eats them fine as well, the dogs are a little pickier about protein but eat them frozen.

If the dark poops continue for more than 24 hours after the meal, then there might be a sensitivity. Otherwise, it is normal.
