They've been getting more of the other proteins this month because I'm trying to get them used to eating them, but I have double of their main proteins than the other 3 so on some weeks I may not do every single protein. Here's a menu-
Monday: Chicken
Tuesday: Mutton
Wednesday: Duck
Thursday: Chicken
Friday: Rabbit (for Marcie: Mutton)
Saturday: Pork
Sunday: Chicken
I can feed 2 proteins per day if you think that would be better? It's easier to do one a day but it's not like it'd be very hard to do 2 a day, they get 3-4 meals a day depending on what time I can be home, sometimes I'm late but I've been working with Cai on eating less often, I've gotten him to these hours in about 8 months time (8am, 4pm, 12am). Our schedule can be all over the place occasionally, lol. I do leave food out for them to snack on though.

No, that looks okay Once we know they are fairly reliable on at least 3-4 proteins you are good! Technically you are now since you really DO know what you are doing, but I will be more comfortable once I know they are accepting and eating at least that many on their own

So far I know that without fuss they will eat chicken, pork, mutton and duck. (they adore duck especially) Today they have had mutton and Marcie is no longer being super picky about it, she ate it like nothing for breakfast. Yay for that! Yesterday I tried her with rabbit again also just to see, she still didn't like it but she ate about an ounce on her own so that's progress. But I won't order it again, just may try to get her to eat it from time to time until I am out of it.
I've been trying to decide what I'm going to get for my next haretoday order, but I cannot decide how many lbs of coarse grind I should get? Last time I ordered I think 14lbs, all of it the regular/fine grind. I'm not really that worried about if they'll eat it though, I pretty much know Marcie will do fine with it, and the only thing Cai would do would be eat around the chunks, which if he did I could just take my shears before every meal and cut the chunks smaller and work our way up. So how much of the coarse grind do you think I should get this time? Whatever I do get will last 6+ weeks so I don't want to get just a tiny bit since I really want them to move up some more, but I don't want to put them into a shock/full blown stubborn eating mood with too much coarse grind. Ah dilemma's, lol. Oh, and most of the proteins on haretoday they only offer it in coarse grind form in 3lbs, and I'll need to order about 15lbs of 5 proteins altogether.

I would get enough to make about 2 weeks worth of meals. That gives you time to work them up to it, then they can stay with it if they take to it well enough.

Okay! Would you please type up a final menu for me, in Monday-Sunday format? Also please copy/paste these questions and give the answers in your reply 1) What are some good emergency taurine sources if you run out of heart? 2) Why are cooked bones dangerous and raw bones safe? 3) Give 2 examples each of muscle meat, edible bones, and organs.

Okay sounds good, here's a menu (all in grind form)-
Monday: Chicken
Tuesday: Mutton
Wednesday: Pork
Thursday: Rabbit (for Marcie: Mutton)
Friday: Duck
Saturday: Chicken
Sunday: Pork
EDIT/ADD: I realized for the final menu you may have meant a frankenprey based menu, in case you did, here is one based on what I currently have available in my freezer to feed (if I fed frakenprey I'd have more of a variety of course)
Monday AM: Chicken Wings Monday PM: Pork Heart (1 oz)
Tuesday AM: CGH Tuesday PM: Ground Beef
Wednesday AM: Chicken Gizzards Wednesday PM: Turkey Necks
Thursday AM: 0.5 oz Pork Heart, 0.25 oz Pork Uterus, 0.25 oz Pork Brain Thursday PM: Chicken Wings
Friday AM: Pork Loin Friday PM: CGH
Saturday AM: Ground Veal Saturday PM: Turkey Necks
Sunday AM: 1 oz Beef Kidney, 1 oz Beef Liver Sunday PM: Chicken Drumsticks
1) What are some good emergency taurine sources if you run out of heart?
Substitute for heart can be either taurine powder, 500mg per day, or beef tongue can also be used as a short-term replacement, same amount of tongue is given as heart.
2) Why are cooked bones dangerous and raw bones safe? Cooked bones are a choking hazard as well as can splinter and tear the intestine/throat. Raw bones do not splinter as cooked bones do and are digestible/break down properly in the stomach.
3) Give 2 examples each of muscle meat, edible bones, and organs Muscle Meats: Chicken Thigh, Pork Loin. (and any type of heart) Edible Bone-In: Chicken Wings, Frog Legs. (pretty much anything from an animal the size of a chicken or smaller) Organs: Kidney, Pancreas. (any secreting organ)

I'm gonna order more grinds today (while there is money still in the bank LOL) but I want to make sure before I order. This is what's in my cart right now, I can change anything if I need to. I'd have done the coarse grind amount differently but it only comes in 3lbs at a time.
1lb whole ground cavies 2lbs venison 2lbs goose 3lbs mutton 3lbs duck 3lbs coarse pork 3lbs coarse chicken
All this is 17lbs, 6lbs coarse, 11lbs reg, 7 proteins, 3 which are red meat, 3 proteins they've never tried.
I got so much this time because I need enough to last until at least October 1st, having to do with the date of our first paycheck after we get back from our cruise. Let me know if what I got is okay.

Oh, and one more question (sorry haha), Steph had a really great idea, she suggested I take all the meat I have in my freezer that I had bought right before going to grinds and taking it to get butcher for them to grind it for me so I don't waste it. I have like 20lbs of pork and 10lbs of chicken and God knows how many lbs of organs and heart, I also have several CGH and chicken wings and so on. My question, what do you think of this idea, and is it okay that I would have to used bonemeal powder for this or should I buy bone in meat to grind up with it? I do have bone in pork chops and then what I mentioned above. I just don't want to waste what is $120+ or so of meat, plus my family is mad about no freezer space lol. I would do the recipe of 8 oz, 1 oz, 0.5 oz and 0.5 oz. I could feed this just in combination with everything else, rotating it. But I figure this will also be a good way for them to eat those organs I have. Let me know what you think

Congratulations :boing: You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone . You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives as you're finding out with your own business. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets, you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Good luck, in a few days Sherry will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly :wave3:
ciao
