Some they simply will not move on. When Cai eats the rabbit, give Marci something else You can try her with it from time to time to see if she has changed her mind, but I'd not worry too much. Good luck to Cai, and he will feel SO much better when it is all done

Okay, will do. She is eating the duck good now, the mutton is still a work in progress, but I guess Rabbit will never be a frequent menu item for her. Oh well, we can try something else next time so they both have 5 proteins. I called a few minutes ago to see if he was ready, they said he was still very groggy from the anesthesia so they want to keep him there for another hour or two, the latest being 4:30 but I should be able to get him by around 3:00. I asked what his BG test result was, get this, it was almost 250mg/dl I was pretty confused when she told me that, had her repeat it twice over the phone lol. I have no idea why it'd be that high, or if it's good or bad. I was expecting it to be in the 80's, last time it was 86. What do you think? I had fed him at 6:30am, given him his meds at 8:00am, I did have to give him his pred a bit earlier than I should have because that night I was kind of late with it. I'd be ecstatic with it being 100-120mg/dl, but 250? Geez. I'll be talking to my vet about it when I pick him up, to see what he thinks, but is it bad that it is that high? He's at 0.8ml pred, has been for about 1 month now, before that he was at 0.7ml for like 3-4+ months. I don't have a calibrated meter though so I can't check it at home until I have that done.

Cai is home and resting, his mouth looks SO much better too. He is still pretty groggy, he was very very tired when I first picked him up, once we got home and he ate about 1.5 oz of duck (i watered it down into a soupy form for this meal) and a couple minutes after he ate he was acting a lot better, he perked up and walked around for a while, now he's back to sleep. They gave him a shot of metacam for any pain/discomfort that will last 24 hours, he said that he would be a bit woozy until it wore off. I'm anxious to see how he is in a couple days once his mouth isn't as sore, I'm really hoping he stops with all the obsessive chewing. I doubt he will ever stop completely, but at least to where he can actually play without stopping to gnaw. My vet said not to worry a lot about his BG number, he said that high stress situations can cause it to go up like that. I think I'll take him back in a few days to have it checked again though just to make sure. I asked about his weight too, he said he is at a much better weight now than before, he is chubby but not necessarily overweight. He was 2.6lbs, compared to his last weight at 3.4lbs he has improved. Here are his before and after pictures, both taken today, and the other picture is his before and after he lost some of that weight. In the after, how do you think he looks? His toofers- and his before/after weight pictures-

Stress does make BG go wonky at times, so I agree with the vet I'd not worry overly at the moment. The after pics for both look SO much better!

That's good to hear, we all know how stressed Cai can get so when he said that it seemed to clear up a lot of confusion. He's feeling great this morning, he woke up bright and early wanting his breakfast, he ate his mutton like a champ then played pretty hard for an hour straight, he was wagging his tail and dooking the entire time he hasn't seemed this happy in a while. I'm guessing his mouth feels better, I'm so glad it has helped already (or so it seems). I can't judge any chewing because it hasn't been long enough really to tell, he hasn't chewed on anything so far but again it's only been less than a day. We'll see how he is doing in a week or two with that, hoping the result is no chewing at all. We can wish, right? Lol.

So far they're both still doing good, but Marcie is being, odd. At first I was getting worried, but then I remembered it's summer, lol. She's eating a lot less and starting to lose weight now too. She is still playing, drinking, pooping, etc. But she's eating half as much as before and I can see she is slimming down too. Part of it may be her being picky with the new proteins, she despises rabbit, she doesn't like mutton, she's okay with duck, and chicken and pork she loves. On the days I feed chicken or pork she gobbles it all up and begs for more, with duck she usually finishes it off, with everything else I have to spoon feed her most of it. Ugh.
But we're working on it, she's never been this picky before, so I'm guessing it's just because of summer and she may not be as hungry? This is my first summer with her, because I adopted her back in October. So we've only been together thru the chunky-eats-like-crazy winter phase.
I've gotta portion out more grind today, I'm going to weigh what's left and see how much longer I have, then a couple days/week before I will order more and also get some coarse grinds. My question, how much coarse grind should I order this time? It will be their first time eating it, I've been told the biggest pieces in it are maybe the size of your thumb, Marcie could probably handle that, I have no idea about Caillou. But should I only order a very small amount, or should I order say half or more of it as coarse? Keeping in mind I'll be getting 6+ weeks worth, I'd like them on the coarse grind sooner rather than later. Need to keep Cai's toofers clean (giggle)

If she is still active, and acting normal otherwise then this is just her summer self Make sure to journal her weight so you aren't so surprised next year A couple of my females only eat about an ounce a day in the summer As for the course grinds- it will depend on how Cai takes to them. You can feed some alongside using the one you are now and see how he does with it. For amounts- I'd stick to smaller amounts for now.

I've been letting them share about 4-5 ounces a day since they've been on grinds, she's eating maybe 1 to 1.5 oz a day now if I had to guess, 2-3+ oz when it's chicken or pork. Cai is eating what she is leaving behind, lol. But he's still at a good weight so I haven't bothered with it. I portioned out the rest of the grinds I had last night, I have about 2 weeks worth left. I'm going to place another order on Thursday in a week and it'll get here Tuesday/Wednesday of the week after that so perfect timing. I'll look around on HareToday and ask you about it before I order, I won't get rabbit again since Marcie hates it, I'll get a different red meat though. Question, I have been feeding Chicken, Pork, Duck, Rabbit and Mutton. Now Rabbit and Mutton both red meats right? I want to make sure I have at least 1 or 2 in the weekly rotation. I understand there is some confusion about pork being white/red, officially everything I have seen or read says pork is red meat, but a lot of people say it's white.

To me it has always been white lol. Another one you could look at depending on price is either mice or cavies as a red meat. And yes, rabbit and mutton both are

I've always counted it as white too, so I'll stick with that lol.
I'm looking around on HareToday, mice is $13/lb and cavies are $7/lb. I'm not sure if those are good prices because I've never fed it/it's never been sold at stores and etc, so are those decent prices for that? I can order some to try. It is fur and all, do you think they'll be picky about that? They gotta try something with fur sometime though. I think for the mice grind it equals out to a little over $1 per mouse that's ground up, considering they're usually between 50 grams or so and there is 500 grams in 1lb, it would be about 10 mice for $13. I think that's a fair price? Hopefully I did that math right though, lol.
Hoping I can try a couple other proteins this time, I have $100 set back for the next order, last time it was $90. I won't be getting rabbit again, not sure about the mutton. I will get more duck though because they both like that a lot. I'm writing up a menu for this week, I'd like to be able to try the pork brains I have with them again, I'll write the menu and post it and you can tell me if it's okay, I don't want to give them too much of something.
Wednesday I took Marcie outside for a walk on her harness, Marcie has always been pretty skittish, she has obvious trust issues, I've had her for a year in October and she still is iffy with me. I figured we could use some time just me and her so I took her out in our yard (we have a lot of land/fields), she LOVED it. She was dooking and had her tail all poofy the entire time, she was trying to burrow and she was even dancing around, I had never seen her that happy. She was being so good too, she followed me as I walked and wasn't scared in the least, which is really wonderful to see from her.

Here's the menu for the week, is this too much organ? It's one day 0.5 oz pork brain, then 0.5 oz pork uterus, then 0.5 oz heart. I just don't want all the organs and etc that I bought to sit there, so I figured I'd let them have a little bit every week or so. They haven't tried uterus or brains yet.
Saturday: Mutton (pm: 0.5 oz mutton & 0.5 oz pork uterus)
Sunday: Chicken
Monday: Duck (pm: 0.5 oz duck & 0.5 oz pork heart)
Tuesday: Rabbit (for Marcie: Chicken)
Wednesday: Pork
Thursday: Mutton
Friday: Chicken (pm: 0.5 oz pork & 0.5 oz pork brains)

The fur will definitely help any internal issues Cai has. For now, do the mice next order instead of rabbit. Okay- what are the MAIN proteins you will be sticking with, surrounded by what others in the weekly rotation? As in, chicken, x number of meals, duck, x number of meals(giving two main proteins) with all the rest making up the others. Am I clear enough? It IS 2:30 am here, so might be sleep befuddled brain talking lol

Okay, the main proteins I have are Chicken and Pork. I order 5lbs of those two, and 2lbs of the other proteins. I only do 1 protein a day and I have 5 proteins available (and I'll have 5 proteins with my next order too).
Do you mean how many meals I can make out of what I have? I can do 20 meals of chicken and 20 meals of pork. Then I have 24 meals worth of the 3 other proteins (all together, not each. Each would be 8 meals). I don't have that much at the moment, that is how much I have when I order it.

No, it was the proteins themselves I was thinking of, and how often they come into rotation. Tell you what- set me up a practice menu
