Remus' mouth ulcers are continuing to be a problem, so my vet suggested putting him on .5mL of choskren's Benadryl to see if that keeps them away. I was just wondering of Reishi mushroom would be am acceptable substitute, since I think I remember people saying it has antihistamine properties? If so, what would a dose comparable to .5mL of Benadryl be?

It depends on the ferret I think. For my ferret, benadryl has no effect. I'm getting a shipment of potent Reishi in the mail by Friday to give that a try with Evening Primrose.

Why does he have mouth ulcers first? Is he on pred?

He is on Pred. He used to get them quite often but the seemed to go away when I took him off poultry (and he stopped scratching so much). He has one now but it started out as a scratch so I'm just not sure it's a histamine reaction. The vet thought it might be and suggested the Benadryl (which he was on before I took the poultry out of his diet). But Katt suggested that the Pred may have just suppressed his immune system so that the scratch got more easily inflamed/infected, which sounds more likely to me, since he's not showing any other signs of allergies, no extra scratching or anything. So if anything I might do colloidal silver for a while, but Katt also suggested just keeping him off any extra meds for a while to see if he heals up.

I have had great success with mouth ulcers using colloidal silver. Saturate a qtip with it, scruff til he yawns and dab the ulcer 3 times a day. It normally disappears after 3-4 days with this. If you CAN'T dab it, then put about 5 drops on top of his first half spoon of soup given before the pred. This takes a bit longer but still works.
