Hey guys,
Although I'm not ready to get another ferret yet, I have to admit I really miss the presence of a ferret. If you should happen to know anyone who no longer wants their pet ferret, or of a reputable rescue or shelter, I would love to hear from you. I live in Middlesex County and I'd be willing get to drive an hour away to reach a new fuzzy. I would prefer singles, but I have no age or sex preference. I'm not sure I have the funds for a special needs ferret despite having pet insurance. Oh- one thing- please, no sables with masks. The resemblance to Sly would be too much.
Anyone who can help, thank you so much!

I don't know of any rescues in NJ. I bumped this and maybe someone else will know and offer some info. If you try Petfinder and under Breed, type in Ferret, then Ferret rescues and available ferrets will come up. Petfinder is finicky, you might have to play around with it.
The Annual Ferret Buckeye Bash is this weekend. It's in Columbus Ohio, if you feel like a drive. I don't know if there are available ferrets, the breeders are there and usually have an adoption process to go thru. I just thought I would mention it.

You could check local shelters that aren't ferret-specific. The humane society close to me is mostly cats and dogs but they sometimes end up with a ferret. You could even contact them and ask them to call you if they get one in.

Thanks for bumping this for me! Unfortunately, i work weekends, and driving to Ohio from NJ takes ~10 hours, so I wont be able to attend the buckeye bash. Even still, thank you for thinking of me.

So this adorable little mug has been staring me down on PetFinder for Days: Her given name is Shoes, which I'm debating on whether or not to keep it because it's cute (Sly's given name was Paws, which I felt obliged to change, so maybe I should continue the trend). I'm thinking of giving her a little Polish name Since carpet sharks are so mischievous, I wanted to give her a name that made me think fun with a big side of trouble. That's why I like Dita, meaning "rich battle" (possibly with toys, pooing corners, or bathtime), as well as Yetta, "little home-ruler". Or maybe something else.

I think Yetta is the best...home is where the heart is and all

Not yet! I've applied to adopt her, and hopefully the rescue will let us.

So as it turns out, the PetFinder ads for this rescue are out of date, and Shoes has long since been adopted. But one of the people running the no-kill shelter was nice enough to call me and extend an open invitation. Right now they've only got bonded pairs, so now my boyfriend and I have the choice of two ferrets or no ferrets Ferret math is the only kind of math I'm good at. We're trying to get names ready for whatever pair picks us (F/F, M/F, M/M). For any male ferts we pick up, our favorites are Gunter and Linus. For female ferts, we agreed on Piper, but should we need the second name my boyfriend prefers Ren and I prefer Mishka. Long story short, we're just so excited to get down to that shelter and see some fuzzbutts!

Don't get too attached to any names. I had a name picked out when I went to get Remus but it just didn't fit him.

Oh yeah. These are just our favorites; we've got a whole ballpark of other names.

And once they come home, just let them be for a bit and they'll let you know what THEY prefer

So these are the new candidates! Below you have a bonded pair containing Orso, a large male, and Fretka, a small female. I immediately took to Orso, and my boyfriend, Travis, immediately took to Fretka. (Bonus points for both of them already having polish names- bear and ferret!) The thing is, my boyfriend didn't feel like he bonded with Orso, or rather that Orso didn't like him. I really didn't think that. Oh, and Fretka was one chill little girl. She just wanted naps and cuddles. Next was Suzie. She's a single female, busy as a bee. If she weren't super tiny, I could almost mistake her for Sly! That's kind of a detraction for me... I don't want the ferrets to resemble another too much. I want to see them as individuals, so I can enjoy them for who they are. Travis also adored little Ms. Suzie. Last but not least was little Ermine. She was also very petite. I was taken in by how beautiful and calm she was. Travis didn't seem to bond well with her. So they're all extremely lovable. The only problem is that Travis's preferences and mine directly contradict each other *

Hopefully! I'm so excited to have a fuzzy around again. I've been getting some replacement items so the poor buggers don't get all hand-me-downs- a good furminator, a bigger, better ventilated carrier, and some starter food from wysong. I'm excited to get them on raw right away, but I want to have something on hand just in case so they don't starve.
