apologies...ran out of time this weekend, so it's an abbreviated overview...just a menu:
some nights. i feel like there is great progress...everyone comes to the plates, at least tries to eat, etc. Other nights like tonight...no interest at all. /sigh i offered a chicken tonight in addition to the bon mash...no interest yet... added lamb to the menu again...found some lamb neck bones. will find out how hard it is to mash those.... annette

No success with any of them huh? Do u think they are holding out for their morning meal where they don't have the pieces? I find it bizarre the little stinkers ate being so challenging when they were eating lots of boneless pieces! When they stash will they go back to eat them?

update for sunday, monday, and tuesday - april 26th, 27th, 28th:
While I think there has been some progress with Max, Lily, and P...I also think they are holding out for the morning meal - most especially BC. BC and P have always been the most stubborn. Max and P sometimes go back to eat stashed meat. When preparing next week's menu/meals...every meal will have bone (except organ soup meals). They really seem to prefer chicken wings and chicken backs over everything else. Is it okay to feed a lot of chicken bones to get them over this hump? annette

Happy May! I think it is definitely best to take away the no bone meals for a week or so. It's too easy to wait for the lazy meal when it comes once a day Yes, feeding all chicken for a little while is fine, especially as they are getting used to new bones. Chicken bones are softer and likely a bit easier to chew. Feed chicken for the week, and see how they do. The fact that Max and P are eating the stashed meat sometimes is a big deal! I think you are further to the top of the hill than the bottom now For a couple of meals try feeding a well smashed back or wing with no soupie to see what happens. It is still OK to use a bit of soupie as a gravy if there isn't a lot of interest. Have a great weekend!

Yay Max! You mentioned that Lily is letting pieces fall from her mouth. Do you think she is still consuming most bone pieces? Mine do this as well do consume most. Their poops all look good. BC ate a decent amount on "chicken" meal and "organs" meal. Neither of those have bone right? Is BC eating the bone pieces? (albeit very little I see) Keep working with the chicken smash. No worries that turkey isn't a favorite right now. Think of it this way - how many people start with chicken soupie, no other proteins, for a while? You slowly add in the variety as they get used to the first step. That is OK and very normal. So stick to the chicken and once it is accepted you could sneak a little turkey smash or pork in there. But for now, lets get over the eating bone hurdle

Aww yay BC!! Thats huge progress! Keep on the bones for a little while longer. If they are all eating try slightly larger pieces. Don't move too fast on size. So now they are all successfully eating bones! Yay! Keep it up annette and little ones! That is a big hurdle

hey there. apologies for not doing an update during the week; worked lots of OT. Thought I had done an update (letting you know i was working OT), but it's not here...guess i didn't click reply, lol. anyways, here is the overview for this week, may 17th - 23rd:
actually got weights AND pics this time! for the menu, i am sticking with mostly chicken bone mash (backs, drumettes, and necks) as well as turkey neck mash. added one night of muscle meat (pork) just for a little variety..also because i see some bony poops, lol. all are doing well i think...i hear crunching from everyone! if it's okay with you, from now on i do a more informal update during the week (no more spiffy form). thats it for now. annette

 :boing:  What GREAT news! I think it would be safe to add in a couple meals a week of a non-bone meat now. How much soupie is still being added? Any? If so you can slowly decrease that as well until they no longer have any added. Pork or beef would be a good non-bone to add to the menu. I would feed it separate from the bone smashed chicken and turkey so there isn't anyone... *cough BC cough* who may choose to pick around the bone if there is an easier meat to chop on. For example: Mon Am: chicken smash Mon PM: pork Tues AM: chicken smash Tues PM: chicken smash Wed AM: Organs... etc etc I personally try not to feed boneless meals back to back. It just makes for messy poos. So organs and boneless meals are always surrounded by bone in meals. So here is some things to work on in a nut shell: 1) add in a non bone meal. Pork or beef. (beef is nice since it is a great red meat, but it is stronger tasting). Use some soupie topper if needed. 2) Decrease soupie used in chicken/turkey bone smash. 3) If not using soupie in #2, slowly increase the size of the pieces. At the end of me increasing sizes I still chop chicken wings into about 6 pieces. (3 pieces for wingette and 3 pieces for drumette). This is all personal preference. Some people feed them whole, but I find for a business of 2 or more I like pieces that aren't fought over. I also still smash up the bone within those pieces a little bit (just with tapping my cleaver) as I have a couple that would gladly eat around the bone lately.. * Smashed pieces are more enticing since the marrow shows and they are easier to chomp up. And yes- "informal" updates are more than fine. Especially with the stage you are at. They are well on their way!

Hi there. Here is the menu for this week, May 24th - May 30th:
Everyone is doing well. I have seen and heard everyone crunch on their own...some days more than others. Shaking up the menu a bit again this week. Added one more muscle meat meal (for a total of two, beef and pork) AND a meal of DUCK bone mash. Went to an oriental market this weekend and found some interesting goodies (duck wings, whole frozen quail, duck liver, pork organs, etc.). Yum, LOL. Annette
