tonight's dinner:
max was the only one that really gave it a whirl. the rest licked the broth and carried off a piece or two to leave in the corner, and that's it. i will be saving some of this for tomorrow, lol a

i am finally feeling a bit better...just in time to go back to work tomorrow this week's overview, april 5th - 11th: and update for sunday, april 5th: the biggest news of the week is that max got the deslorelin implant on thursday. he did great! the past week saw minimal success with the bone in meals. everyone ate one piece of the turkey wing tip when hand fed. other than that, they ignored it. the lamb rib bone in meal was the first time they had ever had lamb, so double whammy there. i finger fed the lamb, and they all ate a bit grudgingly...but not much at all. friday night i made sure that everyone ate some chicken wing. they all did, but lily ate the tiniest of pieces. this week's bone meals are turkey necks, lamb chops, and chicken wings. right now, the turkey necks are sitting there...everyone is sleeping. /sigh. have to be honest, i wonder if they will ever eat a wing on their own, lol. annette

Hmm, no luck with the lamb thus far huh?
Here is what I would like you to try. Choose 1 bone in meat that has seen a little success (chicken maybe?) and I want you to feed that for at least 4 consecutive meals. If you add some soupie for gravy keep it minimal. I would like to see if they are more holding out for a meal they would prefer rather than to have to chew. By the third meal or so I would be curious to see if they eat a bit more. They are all capable (as they will take a little if hand fed at times) so they are just being a bit stubborn.
Keep hanging in there, out stubborn the most stubborn of animals! (haha)

hey there. not doing my usual formal update...mostly because i am not sure how much everyone is eating. did the four consecutive bone-in meals (turkey necks, chicken backs, lamb chop/beef tail combo, then turkey necks again). saw perhaps the tiniest bits of improvement. max will actually go to the plate and eat a very small bit on his own. lily will also approach the plate and eat a tiny bit; however, with her i don't hear any crunching so i don't know if she is actually eating bone or just managing to find the bits of meat in there. bc and p are my hold outs as usual. both will eat tiny bits of bone (i have heard them crunch) if hand fed but thats about it. p will run off and stash pieces. bc has very little interest. annette

Hi Annette - the formal updates aren't as necessary now unless you want to. You are at a stage that every 3-4 days you can just update me. I believe that if you keep going on the bones they will eventually start eating more and more of it. Continue to handfeed bc and p a bit when you can. I would like all of their meals (minus the organs) to have bone in pieces in them. What would Max and Lily do with a well smashed up chicken wing? If you fed that for the 4 meals - how much of each meal would be gone approx? bc and p didn't go the whole time without eating anything I can't imagine? On the weekend/evenings are you able to feed small meals where you can watch each ferret eat on their own? If so can you add just a few little teeny pieces to bc and p's plates and see if they will eat them?

hey there ! here is the overview for this week: april 19th - 25th. format updated to reflect checking in every three - four days: no one would cooperate for body pics, so this week is candid shots, lol i also rearranged the menu a bit so that the heavy bone-in meals are at night so i have time to hand feed if necessary. this week's bone-in meals are chicken backs, turkey necks, and pork rib tips. this week i plan on offering individual servings to see who is eating how much. also plan to give a whole (smashed) wing. this past week, max seemed to do really well...altho one time he choked and gagged a bit (freaked me out), but he went back to the plate so must not have been too bad. lily is doing okay...but i think she avoids the bones if she can. bc and p are doing a tiny, tiny bit better...there is some crunching going on, but most times only when you hand feed. thats it for now. annette

Don't worry about the choking/ gagging. As odd as it seems is normal. If they swallow a piece too large they hack it up to chew again! Ha. They get better with that. Feeding bone at night is a good idea.
