Some of you know that our lovely albino boy, Shiro passed away on Thursday. We got Shiro from a friend that is in the Navy & received ship duty in the Sea of Japan. Obviously she couldn't take her ferrets with her. She has since come back to the States & is stationed in Virginia. She is very heartbroken by his passing. Our vet clinic makes foot imprints & sends them to you when your furry family member passes. The vet tech I know already made one of Shiro's & I just asked if she could make a second (because it didn't dawn on me until the other day). She said if he is still there by the time she gets there on Monday she will make a second. However, if he isn't, does anyone know how to safely make a second one using the imprints we will receive?

I didn't even know that was possible! It sounds so nice. I hope you can figure it out.

Me too. If I can't she'll get the prints since we'll have his ashes. I'm also having Tootsie make two angel figurines of him. If I can't, then maybe I'll do a rubbing & frame the little rubbing to put near his box.

There is something you can use to 'fill in' the footprints.. unfortunately I can't remember what it's called. It dries sort of like rubber so you can pop it out and use it to make a new impression. It's been years since I've used it but I'm sure it's still available. Maybe check in a craft store??

I do not know, but I know someone who does! He does them and he does an amazing job too. I'll ask him how he does it.

I saw my vet tech friend today when I picked up Shiro's remains, she was not able to make a second set so I'll definitely try to make another set. I'll do some research as well & might just have to go to a craft store & ask an employee & pray they know.

I went to a Michael's craft store & spoke to someone who is knowledgeable about making casts, stamps, etc. He said that he was concerned with how soft the material was with the original imprint that making a stamp would end up not working properly & damage the original. I'm going with doing a charcoal rubbing & then getting a small frame for it & then send the imprint to Shiro's first mom.
