And the good side looks more yellow than it actually is. My camera went wonky and made everything yellowish for some reason.

Yes, that is a LOT of build up poor lad! If you can get him to chew on that side(he will be resistant because it will be uncomfortable to start), then it will help tremendously.

Yeah, what happened is I first intro'd bone in and he threw up several times. Every time he ate it, he would vomit. Then he straight up refused food. I worried and took him to the vet, they looked at his teeth and cheeked his disgestial tract, but they couldn't find anything wrong. So I could only convince him to eat mush for a long time then slowly rebuild up to meat chunks. It took nearly six months.

Persistence. You have done so well with him Try tug of war with the wing tips, and hold him while offering him a tip to chew on that side.

Well I've been slowly forcing him to eat on that side of his mouth. He hates it and he hates me after meal times, but I know it will be best for him in the long run. I just wish it didn't make me feel like a monster. Bought a bunch of treats for him, for like three bucks, but he just poo poo'd them all, not even showing the slightest bit of interest. I forced him to try them but he would just push them out of his mouth with his tongue. SIGH! And he isn't even remotely interested in the food if you pull it away (to initiate play or tug) he just sort of stares at it then at you like 'Am I supposed to care?' I've tried ever kind of treat I can think of and he's just not interested. One of the treats I bought is dried duck breast so I was thinking of placing it in some water to try to reconstitute it and see what he thinks. If I can get him to eat it that way I was thinking of just slowly let it soak less and less until he's eating it as it. WHY DOES HE HAVE TO BE SUCH A BUTTHOLE!

Because he is a ferret? :heehee: Just do what you can and put some cash away slowly for a dental cleaning. I actually use a prepaid credit card that I stash away weekly on. It stays at home and doesn't get used.

Sorry! We found our new home, with first month's rent free, buuuuut we aren't officially moved in. I'm been spending my days there, fixing it up (patching little holes and, in a few days. painting! Whooooo) and cleaning. No power or internet quite yet, but Sev has been loving it. It's a three story home and Sev has had full run of the place. I have all his tubes set up so he just goes bonkers sniffing every square inch of the floor and then zipping through tubes. It's great. He's getting better with his crummy plaque-y side of his mouth, it still looks terrible, but he fights less when I force him to eat on that side. Bone-in is still a chore though and he mostly just picks the meat off the bone bits. :/ I'm definitely thinking that bone-in meals will have to be ground up. I got a giant, heavy duty food processor for free on my birthday and have been dying to see what it does to a couple of chicken wings. If that doesn't work as well as I'm hoping it will, do you have a meat grinder/food processor you would suggest? Or maybe just another thought on how I can trick his picky butt into eat the actual bones? He'll eat them if they are smaller than a cm or two, but nothing bigger. And it is sooooooo hard to get more than two or three pieces that frickin' tiny. :/ Oh, and the local store I went to for kidneys has stopped carrying them. We have another three meals of organs in the freezer, but then they will be all gone. Besides kidneys, what other organs can I mix with his liver? I'm going to check out this store I heard about that carries crazy types of meats and organs, but I am not hopeful. (I've checked out three different stores already that made the same claim. Apparently turkey is the only crazy meat cut. )

Just make sure most of his bone in meals contain bone Took mine 3 days of the segmented wing thing for them to start eating it. That was 3 days straight, with ONLY segmented wings given twice a day. I had to outwait them, and give them nothing else. If your grinder works and you prefer that, then great! If not- not a clue since the grind I use comes that way. Ask on the open forum or fb group about it. As for substitutes, they are in here: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/146/meat-bone-organ-weekly-menu

So last night I made some kibble sized bites of chicken wing tips (I found actual FULL WINGS AMAZING!) and I cut up about four or so of them. Well he ate about half. Which is more than I expected from him. I have four more that I'm gonna give him today. I'm proud of my ferret, even if he's a total butthole. ^_^

Well, same as always (wolfs them down like a champ.), though I still can't find another secreting organ. I guess I will have to go clear across town to get some from this asian store(about 4-6 hours on the bus. Yay. ). And I'm sure he has no problem with other proteins, but if I stop giving him bone-in for one meal he will refuse the next meal in hopes of me making him something else and will only eat the bone -in wing cause he's really hungry. Ugh it just makes me feel terrible.

He will get past it They are stubborn little sods who know how to play us. I have them pull stuff like that as well. They learn. When you go to the other store, pick up enough of the organ to do for a few months. 5% of a total weekly diet really doesn't come to a large amount. If he normally eats 4oz a day, that would be 28 oz a week. So 5% of that would be 1.4 oz a week Okay, would you fill this in so we have an idea of where he is at please? 1. Ferret's name: 2. Ferret's weight: 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal. 4. Stools on various proteins. 5. Activity levels: 6. Weekly menu: Read more: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/61/sign-mentoring-program#ixzz3mTsGmRe4Also a few pictures- one from above to see his general shape, one from the side if possible, and one "hanging". Hold him under his front legs so his bottom hangs down and have someone take a picture of his body shape
