Okay, so for calcium what is he getting? Also, can you pick up even a small pack of wings? That will do for a few meals so we can get him working on bone in.

Oh for calcium he gets bone meal powder. Human grade. And I can, but he will regularly just eat around bone pieces or simply not eat at all, or spit it out if I scruff and hand feed him it. But yeah if you think I should buy some wings I can do that thursday since that's when my husband gets paid.

Do that. We will start with the wing tip and the middle bits. You can use the drumette yourself, or freeze for later What you will do is start by mincing them up with a cleaver and he will get that for several meals running. Here is a video that may help. Uses quail instead, but gives a good idea. Something else that may help is if you can get cornish hen. The bones are a LOT smaller. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/18359/smashing-bone-beginner-ferrets

I think I can get cornish hens, so I will snag that tomorrow (or if they don't have them at my local store, I will snag them as soon as they are available). And thanks a ton for the video! I used the 'hammer and ziploc' method and booooooy does it suck. If this ACTUALLY works and I don't have a to buy a meat grinder I will be forever grateful. x3 What should I do if he refuses to eat? Should I 'starve him out' as my friend puts it and just make sure that he has food available until he gets hungry enough to go for it?

If he is healthy, and under 2 years old going up to 12 hours with no food isn't going to hurt him I fed nothing but segmented wings for 3 days running to get my first crew on them lol

Okay. He's a fairly healthy boy (got some teeth troubles, but I'm trying to stay on top of them. Just very plaque-y in case you wanted to know) and he's roughly around 2 the exact age alludes me, but he was between 7 months to a year when I got him and his first 'gotcha day' was April 20th. There has been a few times where he took two bites of food and refused the rest for two meals in a row. I was so scared, I nearly rushed him to the vet (I freak easily at first and then my animal knowledge kicks in and I take control of the situation and stop being a big panicky baby, lol.), but I made him puree and he ate just fine. Two bowls of it, in fact.

Update?

Hey, sorry for no update. My inlaws and husband thought it would be fun to surprise me with a trip to the cottage with only half an hour to get ready to leave. So I had to make a collapsible pen for Sev, pack meat, etc. It was fun, but exhausting. We got home yesterday evening where I promptly passed out till 2 am, got up fed Sev, and then went back to sleep till... a half hour ago.
Anyway, I did not get to break up the bone-in meat. I plan on doing that shortly. (I froze it and then called my roommate and asked him to remove it from the freezer yesterday morning so it's finally thaw now.) I will update again after I set the food out for him.

Okay, so set the food out for him, let him lick some gooey blood mush off my finger and left him to the wings. (2 split wings) He licked them a little, gave one an experimental chew and then walked away. That was around 2:30. And I know he's pretty dang hungry by now. :/ What should I do for dinner? Smash a couple more and encourage him to eat?

Try smashing them up a bit more and give that.

:/ They were pretty well smashed, all the bones were broken into teeny tiny bits and most of the chicken under the skin was mush. :/ He still refused to eat more than three bites. That's three bites of food for three whole meals.

For the next meal, make sure all the old is removed and give a new one of JUST the wing tip and middle part cut between the two bones. Using a cleaver or back of a knife mince those up well. Think the consistency of commercial raw. Add a tbsp or so of very warm water to moisten after and mix that in. You can also try spoon feeding it

I get rid of the meat after 8 hours, every time so it's always fresh for him. I got him to eat one piece of a third of a split chicken wing, but we ran out of wings and I'm not able to afford more until next thursday. For now he's getting chunks of meat which he occasionally eats. In this one week I have had to toss out more meat than I normally toss out in a month, which we just can not afford to keep doing. I may just end up making homemade grinds for him if this keeps up.

Alright, do what you need to until then. And the meat can sit for 12 hours, no problem. Get the wings, segment as before, smash up until almost mince state, and hand feed. I assume he has no issue eating mince, as compared to chunks?
