My father in law has decided that he likes the ferrets. We recently found out that sometimes he goes to see the ferrets when we're not around but he's not the type to admit he likes other critters besides his dog Spike. Well, father in law doesn't have air conditioning and it's about to get very hot. He usually puts a window unit in and hubby and I were recently talking about having to move the ferrets into the kitchen where the window unit will reside but he still hasn't put one in. Father in law expressed concern to hubby while they were cleaning out the garage about the heat. He asked how hot they could handle it. Hubby said, "You know, not much hotter than this, dad. We'll have to move them into the living room when you put the window unit in". Father in law said that instead of putting the window unit in the living room, he was going to put it in the adjoining garage and weather proof and insulate the garage next week so that we can move the ferrets out there and they can have the air all to themselves. That is so sweet! I don't mind being hot as long as they are cool, honestly, and it was so nice of him to think of the ferrets. He now admits that he likes them-he likes that when they play, they'll all come up to the gate to see him if he walks up to the play area to greet him. He has started talking to them too. He also pets them now too! It's very cute to see that gruff old man loving on the ferrets. We should only be here for a short time still, but him putting the unit in the garage for the ferrets will really help me not to worry about them so much. It's been a bit hot here recently and all we could do was make them cooling nest boxes and use ice water bottles. They work well but need constant attention. Anyway, I just wanted to brag on my father in law for being so considerate of them even though he doesn't have to be.

Teehhe I bet that is cute. My FIL was very similar to that way, but these little fuzzballs seem to work their way into people's hearts unless they're made of stone.

ha ha ha. my father is the same way! he LOVES ferrets!! they are his favorite animal. actually, my father really doesn't like any other kind of animal. just ferrets. he comes over to visit his grandferret Sonny all the time. he also knows their behavior better than I do. he always asks me if he can take Sonny home with him for the night. sometimes he asks me if I'm going on vacation so that he can take care of Sonny. I think he wants to steal him from me! how can you not love these animals.

Hahaha awww My father acts very gruff and un-caring about MoJo, really all my animals, but he really likes them...He'd do anything for them if I needed it. It's nice to be able to rely on someone like that, so I know how you feel

Aww thats so sweet, I love those kinda moments. My dad always talks about how the fuzz are smelly but for some reason he extremely likes SoCo and he asks me about him, lol. Also whenever I post about him on face book my dad is like the first one to hit the like button. My fiancee suprises me like that too, I know he loves the kids but I never knew how much until we got this apartment and not only did he (ok it took a little pushing..) agree to let me use the spare second bedroom as the ferret room but he also put in all the carpet protectors by himself. Then last week he really blew me away. He is a very family oriented man and his brother recently got arrested, his brother's girlfriend is 6 months pregnant and barely working. She has 3 cars to pay, three insurances to pay and rent (all due in the same week) and she has no money... to top the heart-break cake right before her boyfriend/my fiancee's brother got arrested, he told the girl they rent their room from that they'd be out by the end of the month. So then she asked us to move into our 'spare room' and I thought I was going to have to explain why its not spare and fight my fiancee on the matter... but before I could get out a word, he stepped up to the plate and told her no, not only does Tequila (our chihuahua) hate her so hed have to be locked up which would be totally unfair to him but the room isn't spare, the kids live in there and baby SoCo is free roam, if she came in there'd be nowhere for him to go. Instead he offered to help find her a cheaper room to rent and he said he'd move all her stuff. Honestly, I feel aweful for her but they're the type that only calls when they need something, you know, and then not only do they expect us to drop everything and help them- they expect us to treat them like royalty while we're at it. I guess its more my fiancees brother thats like that than her but she doesnt do anything to stop/help the situation. Plus they also are the type to say whatever they want whenever they want w/o caring whoes feelings they hurt- I dont wanna live with her being like that and if/when he gets out before she finds something I dont want to live with him being like that... im ranting. Anywhoo whenever my fiancee's brothers in trouble, my fiancee has a tendancy to forget how his brother treats us like crap and my fiancee will do anything to help him and his g/f- he says he only has one brother bla bla bla and shes carrying his nephew so he has to look out for the baby bla bla bla... so him sticking up for the kids and our way of life/our right to give them their own bedroom was one of those AWW omg moments. I love them SORRY i totally went into rant mode/story time

It is really cute, guys, for sure. Miami, it looks like Sonny has a great grandpa! comadre, it's quite alright. I understand-I have a hard time saying no too, but it's good that you did. People that are sweet about everything and can't say no end up being walked all over, as I have learned the hard way. In any case, that's awesome of your fiancee!

yeah my dad even brings over his old newspapers all the time so i can use them for Sonny's potty. he also brings Sonny "toys" like bottle caps, etc. i think he wishes that he could have ferrets again but he is getting old and he can't keep up anymore. typical conversation on a saturday morning: dad: "where's sonny?" me: "he's sleeping dad." dad: "wake him up! bring him out!" me: "no dad. he's sleeping." dad: "I'm gonna go get him and wake him up." me: "fine." dad: "can i take him home with me for tonight?" me: "no dad. mom's cats have fleas." dad: "he'll be in my room with me. he won't be near the cats. I'll put water and food down for him. i'm bring him back tomorrow." at this point i just act like i don't hear anything.

Hahaha.... my dad is the same way. He loves ferrets, especially the DEW's. I had a ferret named Gizmo who was a DEW and she basically was the family ferret as no other ferrets liked her. She had free run of the house. My dad just loved her. Carried her everywhere. He even cried when she died. He always looks at the ferrets and tried to find one that looks like her. I'm sure he would get one if he could find one like her. But she was original, no one ever came close to her. He plays with the ferrets when I bring some to visit his house. Something he doesn't do with the cats or dogs. Ferrets sure know how to weasel their way into your hearts.

Pixie makes frequent trips with us to see my future FIL. He loves her, says shes his "little buddy." Although he called her "dude" for quite a long time. I think he finally realizes she's a girl

Haha, definitely! When I got my newest addition Dixie, I let her free roam with Trixie (champagne). Dixie is a dark sable, Pixie is a chocolate/sable. He ACTUALLY thought Dixie was Pixie. Dixie was just 9 weeks old, and she was super skinny and stinky. Pixie weighs about 1.75 lbs, Dixie barley 1 lb. He got very upset, telling me Pixie looks sick, and what's wrong with her. Then Pixie ruined the prank by walking up to him and licking his ankles It was VERY funny though.
