Anyone know if metcam should be given with food? Thats what they gave us for pain and Im suppose to give her a dose this evening. I've had to give it with food everytime I've given it to a dog, as it can cause stomache upsets. I would imagine it would be the same for a ferret.

Call the vet and ask. I know Sinnead had that, but I can't remember if we gave it with food or not. Either way, with a pain killer, it's not going to hurt to do so.

I would give it with food or at least after food. Do you have any sulcrate? Like all nsaids these should not be given on an empty stomach. JMO ciao

Wow, I'm so sorry! But really, this sounds like a great movie plot. It would make a great thriller/action adventure movie. I can totally see your part being played by Angelina Jolie and your boyfriend.. maybe, I dunno John Cusack? Something a la 2012? "I don't care if there's a tornado out there, we've got to get this ferret to a Doctor!!"

Keeping your girl in prayers - I'm so sorry. Some things just are not preventable, they are tiny and quick... I don't know about dosing Metacam for ferrets but my mouse receives Metacam in the evenings with food. I feel that pretty much any pain reliever is best taken with food, a lot of them can potentially cause internal bleeding.

They didnt give me anything other than the metcam, I'm giving it to her once a day at night and I made sure she ate before hand.. she seemed to tolerate it well. She gets to go with daddy to work today since I have to run lots of errands all day long.
I gave in lastnight and let her sleep with the rest of the ferrets, she was banging and chewing on the bars in her solo cage, I figured she would do herself more harm throwing a tantrum in that cage then she would if I just let her sleep with everyone else. Sure enough i found her curled up in the middle of a huge ferret pile this morning just as happy as can be. I think I'll just keep her quite during the day and let her sleep with everyone at night so she's not as upset.
She seems to be doing a little better, still pretty quiet compared to how she normally is but I think she'll be alright. Next checkup with the vet is wednesday.

It sounds like she's doing well. For during the day, do you have a really calm(ish) one that isn't likely to start jumping on her to wrestle? That might actually help her stay calmer during the day as well.

I think as long as I keep her away from hannable dexter and berry she'll be okay.. those three tend to be the super rowdy crew. Sam is probably the most laid back of the group, I'll have Tim put her with him when he gets home this afternoon, maybe i'll have him put in her original cage mate Anks also, those two are pretty close and she acts like a grumpy little old lady most of the time.
